Drone flying in National Parks & Parks Vic zones.

When I obtained a licence for a 2pdr about 1990 under the then current licence laws due to the way they were drafted it was classed as a concealable and had to obtain a pistol licence???? Even Arnie himself in his best Hollywood efforts would have found that one difficult

The cop who was helping me do the paperwork also thought the law was crazy. He managed to obtain a waiver for the requirement to attend 6 shoots a year.

Would have been fun if forced to do so however would also have meant undoing all the required deactivating. Then suppose illegal again as had to be deactivated. Catch 22 there.

Imagine drone laws are in the same legal grey area at the moment where there are rules however were written before the drone hobbyists became an issue. Easier to control someone who needs the drone for their living

Actually thats not correct by law. You dont own the airspace above your property.

Shooting it down, even if you're licenced as a shooter - can, and has, resulted in prosecution of the shooter.

Same as taking possession of a drone that has landed in your property, and failure to return it, is an act of theft.

Plenty are getting pinged for it, CASA has quite a presence on Youtube and is contacting many with "Please Explain" and requesting flight logs etc.

The rules for UAVs are very clear. And quite concise for basic operators.

Nothing within 30 meters of people (radius) or Above People are the most often flouted.
Then theres Altitude - the flight ceiling is 120mtrs above ground level, not above take off point. So you cant go up a mountain and then fly off into the distance without reducing altitude.

Want to be able to do a bit more - Get a licence. It not too hard and enables other uses eg. Night flying, altitude increase, approval to fly over persons (requires some additonal control measures).

Ian, it won't be 2021. This is a long term aim. We don't have a horrible example to copy so it will be cut and try engineering to make an interrupted thread breech block in reverse as we have the hole to use to hopefully make a block that will fit and work. I don't think the gun has been fired since El Alamein[bigwhistle]. It has holes burnt on the barrel to disable it so no hope of firing a projectile. It might never happen given that I am 79 and the owner is 89.

Does it say anything about anonymously killing it with a Block Splitter/Axe once it has landed on one's property?


"Sorry, Ossifer it was disintegrating before it lost altitude"

Just need to disable the camera beforehand I suppose?[bigsad][smilebigeye] Returning it wouldn't be a problem even if it was in unidentifiable bits.

A few years ago I was with a mate who was flying one of the first drones he made (all manual control) a strong wind came up and took it out of the park and over the house and property across the road. He killed the throttle and let it drop as he couldn’t get it back. We walked across and knocked on the door apologised and asked if we could look out the back - they were fine and we all went to find it - I thought it was just behind the house but 5 minutes later we hadn’t found it. Only place we hadn’t looked was in the pool - guess where it was...

We fished it out and the battery promptly caught fire so we watched it burn by their poolside - Hadn’t had that much fun since Grandma died - we all had a laugh.

Point of the story though is that being polite to someone who’s got an errant drone on their property yielded a good result. He was able to reuse the motors, and some other components on the next build.[emoji4]

Have your gamekeeper put the hounds on it. It was worrying your pheasants. No country magistrate would convict. More likely to sentence the owner to a day in the stocks or 20 lashes.[bigwhistle]

How is it possible to be prosecuted when the drone has been in incinerated with all the other household rubbish[bigwhistle]
They May have footage on their phone But without a " Body" they have SFA[bigrolf][biggrin]
