    Very good Amazon scam

I just had to post this.
This morning I received an email from” Amazon Service” telling me that a pair of Bluetooth earphones had been ordered on my account for delivery to an address in Berwick Victoria.
I must say it really looked authentic.
But before I clicked on “ dispute purchase “ I had a look at the sender address which was an exten.ded string.
I then checked my Amazon account. And no purchase .

To be safe I then changed my password but the dispute button is probably leading to a screen to steal your password.
The address in Berwick is a house for sale.
This is probably a result of the pawning of my email address years ago but my wife will not change it.
    regards PhilipA

Good you spotted it. Its nice to know when these attacks occur as it reminds us constantly to be aware.

It's best to never use those links on any email but manually type in the URL for Paypal, Amazon and any site that you intend to use in any way connected to your finances.

Example that are quite neat are one that use the UTF-8 charcater set like
    Code:
    http://www.xn--80ak6aa92e.com
That link will show as a site to Apple in some browsers but not others.

See also homograph spoofing attacks IDN homograph attack - Wikipedia
(The above is a valid link BTW to the Wikipedia entry for this.)

I get stuff every few weeks, most common one is 'please confirm your apple ID as it is going to be cancelled, if you dont'.

or the one last Friday was 'someone has tried to use your apple ID using this phone number. If it wasn't you please submit yours here.'

I just have a look where the email came from, and its easy to tell its a scam, they just want my Apple ID.

I don't use my phone number anywhere.

    I delete them all.

Very simple rule of thumb: NEVER EVER click a link in an email or any other unsolicited message EVER. These days even bookmarked URLs aren't secure.

I don't worry though... I have no money, so they can't take it..

This is the only Amazon I know and the term 'Amazon Service' would probably have a different connotation.

Received a phishing PayPal email yesterday, - and, unlike the usual attempts, had my real name on it - just like a GENUINE PayPal communication.... But sent to the "fake" / 'disposable' email address, - gotcha

And I've had phone calls (landline) asking me to 'Press 2' to switch to NBN - or else my internet will be terminated.

Makes a pleasant change from political calls.... - has no-one told them the election is done and dusted ?

Then there are the emails telling me my parcel has arrived, but sadly, $5 or $10 shipping has been omitted...

As small as she is, she'd probably kill you with kindness.
