For the same reason they're being housed in buildings not designed for quarantine and being tended by people untrained in infectious diseases.

At the moment there are not a lot of alternatives.

Given that the only known Delta variant in Australia was a mystery case circulating in NSW, it's a legitimate query. And at least the Victorians now know where the infection came from - where did the NSW cases come from? From a quarantine breach presumably but why haven't the NSW authorities tracked it down?

"yet another Victorian Quarantine Hotel breach" - FYI, the current lockdown in Melbourne was caused by a failure of quarantine in South Australia - not Victoria.

One would think they would neutralise each other & that there would not be a problem..

The Hotel Manager has already been taken to the outskirts & tied up to a Stringy & shot. We do try to take breaches of regulations quite seriously here.

If you like DL. Wasn't sure, as it not a word I use every day.

I was waiting for the Smellchecker to tell me otherwise but it didn't. Bloody things!

They still haven't found the source of 'BBQ man' and his partner from the Eastern Suburbs, who were Delta cases. Hopefully it's died out and isn't still circulating untested in NSW. Nor did they trace the source of the Avalon outbreak, which spread to Melbourne.

Here in NZ they apparently have a hotel or hotels set up specifically for 'positive' cases. I only know of the one up in Auckland but there may be others in other main centres.

All 'guests' in managed isolation that continue to test negative through their two week stay get to stay in their designated hotels that they were sent to on arrival. Once someone tests positive they are moved out and set apart in the quarantine hotel. Specialist staffing and protocols we are told. Seems easy enough under the cobbled-together circumstances.

As far as I am aware, the quarantine hotel has even been used for community cases testing positive that have not been living in a location suited to self-isolation - think extended families or crowded housing or units of apartments etc.

AFAIK that happens here too. The case in question was moved to the Holiday Inn at the airport when tested positive.

Problem is that cases can be positive for awhile in the original hotel before being detected.

Gotta say that out in regional Vic (no lockdown) everyone is very diligently scanning or signing into premises they visit from what I've seen.

According to the NSW health's own information on Hotel Quarantine, it seems that's the case in NSW. Also Hotel quarantine can be from 14 to 24 days, depending on whether the person accepts a virus test [ if not, 24 days] or tests positive .

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
