I think that was the one double vaccinated person that I had head of that died. I didn't realise he was in palliative care.

That appears to be for somewhere like Sydney where there's a serious outbreak:
"The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) has recommended that the standard 12-week interval between the first and second doses of AstraZeneca be reduced to 4–8 weeks for people located in the worst affected areas.
‘People in an outbreak situation who received their first dose of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca more than four weeks ago should contact their vaccine provider to arrange their second dose as soon as possible,’ the statement reads.
‘In non-outbreak settings, the preferred interval between doses of COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca remains at 12 weeks.’ "

I probably could have it this Thursday without it making much difference to efficacy (the 12 weeks is Saturday) but if there's no reason to do it - and Melbourne has about 25 times fewer cases than Sydney - then it won't hurt to wait the two extra days.
Overnight four new positive cases have been announced in Auckland directly linked back to the person who tested positive yesterday. Variant was confirmed overnight as being delta. One of those contacts was a co-worker of the index case and the other three are this co-workers family members. Somewhere in there is a nurse at Auckland Hospital. The hospital has gone into an internal lockdown surrounding the areas the nurse may have been.
NZ level 4 lock down started last night at midnight. Auckland and Coromandel regions in for a week at present and the rest of us in for 3 days if we are lucky. This is what our lock down looks like in NZ currently.

Can definitely infect children.
In Sydney an 18 month old girl and her three year old sister have tested positive after being negative in hotel quarantine.

In Canberra, Sen Katy Gallagher's 14 year old daughter has tested positive.
Seems likely the rest of both families, who are currently negative, will be infected.
There are 5 cases in one high school in Canberra. We saw what happened in Brisbane schools.
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr wants federal parliament cancelled next week, but Morrison seems reluctant.
Interesting also that Qld Health has been vaccinating NSW border zone residents around Goondiwindi to reduce the chances of them bringing the virus across the border into Qld. Seems a sensible precaution.
Qld stopped 10,000 vehicles at the border yesterday and turned back 1000 without passes.
Of the 116 cases in Western NSW, 60% are indigenous. Only 9 % of indigenous people there are fully vaccinated , despite being in the 1B cohort. There is some friction between the NSW government and the Federal gov., with the Deputy Premier blaming the Feds for the slow vaccination rollout. This is becoming a common theme. My Aboriginal mate said his extended family near Walgett are extremely concerned, and so is he.
So am I! I am also in 1B, but will not be fully vaccinated until the end of next week - could not get an appointment until six weeks after 1B started being done. There has been a shortage both of the vaccines and the ability to deliver them in Western NSW.

NSW covid cluster**** has now gone international. The covid cases in NZ are genomically linked to the NSW cluster.
Four new cases were announced this morning and two further have been announced this afternoon - all linked to the index case of yesterday. A pub full of 70-90 people watching the All Black/Wallabies game; A nightclub in Auckland; A church in Auckland, and the Auckland hospital are all being highlighted as potentially bad spreader locations as at any one time one or more of the positives has been there while infectious.
They are now concentrating some contact tracing efforts on how it got here.
When the travel bubble was cancelled, the NZ govt allowed a one week period where travelers returning from NSW were allowed to return without any managed isolation required, so long as they declared they had not been in a known hotspot. That is the now being reviewed again with each traveler who arrived under those conditions now being contacted for testing.
The other option being looked at is whether any of the three current returnees from Aust in managed isolation who are positive are linked to the case.
