There are some new really detailed and interesting interpretations of the death rate and infection rate using real New York observations here:

If Australia has the population density, the level of travel etc we likely would have been far worse off.

Nobody in Australia (or the world) knows how many people have really been infected. Only reported cases that are confirmed are logged.

Statistically with the asymptomatic behaviour of this virus it’s theoretically possible that huge tracts of the population have had the virus and not suffered any symptoms or notable effects.

She sent her CV around to a few places after her arrival & actually, get this for arse, walked in to a law Practice to inquire just as a woman was leaving her job after resigning to go somewhere else. Bingo The boss took her out to lunch, they chatted, & she got the job.

No she isn't Irish either if you were thinking they get all the luck.

She is back in Adelaide now & trapped by this border **** & doing her work online but I believe she will go back in the fullness of time.

It wasn't a piece of cake for her either. She was selected to joint the IGNITE Schools Program for gifted Students at Glenunga International High School, she went to Holland for about 6 months to study at a selected University there & generally has had excellent marks etc right through, enabling her to be included in another scheme at Adelaide Uni. She is a real self-starter which has stood her in good stead & she is still in her early twenties.

I can recall the days when she was worried that she didn't have any friends at Uni. & felt quite insecure about getting anywhere. All that has been reversed for her now & she is well on her way..

Needless to say we are immensely proud of her & her achievements.

So the next time I need a Brief I will know who to call upon Parking Tickets, Armed Robbery etc.

If that is the case Mike many could be carriers for a very long time I suspect. If they only could tell, like the olde days walking around with a sign around their neck saying "Beware I am diseased" or break out in purple spots or Swastikas or something..

If this were actually the case in, for example, Australia, we would not be seeing the very low percentage of positive test that we are today (around 0.1% today). Given how infectious the disease is it is simply not credible that there is an undetected large reservoir of infected people. In some other countries with relatively low levels of testing, yes, but considering that some countries seem to be able to get it under control, even for these, I suspect it is unlikely.

And it needs to be pointed out that some of the tests used to detect infections through using antibodies have a high false positive rate, making suspect any results that do not give details of methodology and state the reliability of the test used.

That is not quite true. Spain just did a very thorough antibody study with 70000 people. Their study looks well put together to get a random sample.

They found a 5% average infection rate country wide with 15% in the big cities. They also have what is most likely the highest number of deaths per capita so also most likely have the highest case count.

There is a long way to go.

    Source Today's Guardian.

Australia’s four largest exports to China – $63bn in iron ore, $16bn in natural gas, $14bn in coal and $12bn spent by international students studying in Australia – are not expected to be affected in the short term due to their size and the Chinese market’s reliance.
According to the Department of Agriculture, Australian producers exported about $3.16bn in unprocessed or “greasy” wool to China in 2018-19, which represents an even larger value and industry reliance on China than barley.

So they want to cherry pick our exports? If Barley & Beef etc were in the same league they wouldn't touch them. So much for principles.

It would be nice when they order the next lot of the above to tell them to bugger off. "In for a Penny in for a Pound, matey"

But of course that is unrealistic, but I can dream.

In New York for the last month or so they have been randomly selecting people off the street and taking blood samples. They then test the blood for COVID 19 antibodies - they result is that just over 20% of people have antibodies and when taking the blood, people advised whether they had Covid19 (most advised no) - so this would indicate that in New York about 20% have had COVID 19 and not known it.

Large swathes of the population are in isolation - thats one of the key reasons its not blossoming out into the population.

No country has this under control. Its just a calm before another **** storm. Until there is a vaccine and/or herd immunity is reached the populations of the world are vulnerable.

I'm refusing to reduce controls here on site, and the restrictions for my workers remain in place.
