Has anything changed since this episode broke? Army/military bought in? Police?
We have had four 'break-outs' where those who are being held in isolation have absconded.
- One went to a supermarket for beauty products, he is now in quarantine having tested positive. He is beng charged and will appear after he has returned a negative test.
- One just went walkabout and was caught two blocks away wandering along the street, one story has it she asked a cop for directions. She was promptly returned under guard.
- One went to a liquor store and bought some poncy euro beer and a pinot noir. He is now incarcerated in prison pending his hearing after being charged for absconding.
- The latest smashed a window in her unit (a 60+ woman) and knocked on three neigbours doors at midnight. The first door no answer, the second door called 111 and the third door talked to her before she returned and was placed under guard. It sounds like mental health care was offered.
Govt is now thinking electronic ankle bracelets for monitoring location and movement. Public is not overly pleased but realise these are hotels not prisons and returning citizens/residents not crims. One psychologist suggested placing them into hotels based in or around CBDs where they could look out and see and hear NZ operating at Level 1 (near normal) was too much for some. I can understand that. She suggested more remote rural locations might be better but no facilities out there. Chook houses, milking sheds, hay barns and pig-pens for all... ? We placed a three week moratorium on returnees last week. All those with bookings can return but no new bookings allowed so airlines had to cancel trips to NZ. The govt were simply running out of suitable places to house all the kiwis returning.
Bit of a storm out there. Reminds me of a song I like...

From what I have read on this subject, the divide in opinion is between scientists who have been able to demonstrate that it is possible for the virus to travel in aerosols for long distances, and epidemiologists who have been looking for and have yet to find any evidence that in fact it does travel long distances in aerosols.
We know that measles for example does spread this way, and the evidence was clear long before demonstrations of how it travelled could be made, because people got infected just going into a room hours after a measles patient had been in it. This sort of infection does not appear to happen with covid-19, despite a lot of experience looking for it. The spread of the virus is stopped pretty effectively by protocols that would not work if aerosol propagation was commonly happening (which does not mean it does not happen occasionally).
Problem is that infection is not a simple process - for example, while in theory a single virus particle can infect you - but experience shows that it takes a lot of particles for you to have a significant likelihood of infection.
Yep this does keep on bobbing up it seems. Maybe I have a Crystal Ball as I have seen this raising it's ugly head from Day 1 or 2.
Also what must be considered is the amount of AC Systems that do not even have fresh air Makeup. ie. Bad design, laziness on site, Cost cutting, Under design ie "Can,t introduce too much ambient air, our system is on borderline capacity now."
All that sort of ****. We have all seen it Rick.
It is then 100% recirc air. Trouble is you never know which premises are substandard. & put you at risk. Princess rings a bell. No not eight bells, a final bell.
My opinion is still a bank of UV lamps in the return air Path. Time will tell, eh?[bigsad]
