At the time a fair few responsible authorities were concerned that if people had to wear a mask they would have a sense of invincibility and neglect to socially distance and practice correct personal hygiene.

Interesting that NSW starts at the high water mark on the southern side of the Murray River, so its illegal for Victorians to launch a boat without a permit to enter NSW. Bet that annoys the fishos.

That attitude would work perfectly, Especially IF everyone was wearing a face mask as it is Now Mandatory in VIC and the way things are going in NSW with the growing numbers of COV19 infections it should also be a "Mandatory" requirement to wear a face mask in public there.[thumbsupbig]

To be fair and make it a level playing field both NSW AND VIC fishermen/Women should be Banned from the river until this emergency is over.
This would not only help with the COV19 problem it would also be a Boon to helping the recovery in the fish stocks of the river[thumbsupbig]

Masks serve several purposes. Social distancing is designed to avoid direct aerosol contamination with the theory that a virus laden aerosol will fall prior to it hitting the next person. Masks are designed to prevent the aerosol leaving the mask. In theory if masks work there is no need for social distancing. The problems are several. Then we have people using inappropriate masks (like N95s with exhaust valves). So the concept (as has been stated many times in this thread) is the mask protects you from me, but nothing is perfect. It's a bit like the effectiveness of a condom is directly related to precisely the user follows the instructions. Even then, they're not 100%. Social distancing just adds extra precaution to the equation to reduce the probability of contamination and also prevents accidental person to person contact and that extra transmission vector.
