Ha, no cash crops here and definitely not East Cape! Just grass, like the green grass of home....or the whispering grass!
Doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out that we have very insecure quarantine hotels...people breaking into and out of said hotels. Only a matter of time before the virus got out.
Not sure why we haven't done the quarantine properly like they did in years gone by, secure facilities, on islands. Even building one would be cheaper and better for the economy than ongoing lockdowns.
Yep, although if it is traced to an isolation or quarantine hotel, I would bet the vulnerability was a worker there. Isolated/quarantine people stay there (when not trying to abscond or have visitors). The people that work there go home each day. We have heard how health workers overseas have become infected in hospitals wearing PPE with all their training and experience. I can imagine it is only a matter of time before a worker at these places unwittingly has an attachment to take away.
Later EDit to add news item...
Or may not be traced to isolation... early genome testing isn't showing the link to previous cases in isolation just yet. Sounds like they are still mapping previous cases. We live in interesting times.
Covid 19 coronavirus: Genomic tracing used to find source of latest outbreak - NZ Herald
Appears a security guard did not cause the infection breakout in Melbourne hotel quarantine, it was a hotel employee.
I'm not posting the link because I'm sick of being accused of being political, but the story is in the Melbourne Age.
Wonder if this explains the Auckland outbreak, the Beijing outbreak from imported frozen salmon and the original Wuhan outbreak in a seafood market. Bats might not be the source, after all.

It's not just o/s health workers because it is happening here as well. The reason why is fairly obvious.
The TV chat and news programs frequently present vision of critical care staff all dressed in full PPE and this includes gloves and both a mask and face shield. If you watch carefully you will see these staff reach under their face shield to scratch their face or rearrange their mask.
The weak point for transmission is that they do it with their contaminated gloves on. In one simple movement they now have Covid on their unprotected faces.
last week a local business man walks into a nearby pizza shop to pick up an order not wearing a mask. The pizza shop asks why no mask. the customer replys he doesn't believe in mask wearing and tells the pizza shop owner if any one enters his business wearing a mask they are refused entry.
Yesterday he comes in again not wearing a mask and is told by pizza shop owner he needs to wear a mask, then a customer challenges him also, the guy gets abusive. the police were called. The offender is also a known advocate locally of being an anti vaxer, send these types to outer space we dont need them.
one of my Sons is living in Japan, he tells me little testing is being done and it seems gov is encouraging people to travel to other parts of the country with incentives, this is to keep the economy stimulated.[tonguewink]
Yep, I know what you are saying re the gloved face touching. I had to visit a doc about four weeks ago. He had a surgical mask on - one of the normal blue ones oft seen.
Anyway, many times through the consult, he had to pull the mask back up onto his nose. These things are not made for talking. Stubble on the chin is also like velcro and while talking, this guys mask was continually and slowly ratcheted down by the chin full of stubble.
Was also watching a TV announcer giving a live broadcast from the streets of Auckland last night and while he only pulled his mask up once in the broadcast, he realised it was pointless continuing and the rest of the broadcast, his mask slowly slipped all the way round his chin and we could see his teeth and smile. When he crossed back to the studio, the main news anchor stated he'll need a better fitting mask... lessons are being seen on live TV. No escape from mistakes on live TV.
Thirteen new cases in NZ today. Twelve are linked to the newly emerged cluster. The 13th is in hospital and investigations are underway to see where this one's infection came from. 26000 tests across the country were processed in the last 48hrs.
The govt caucus is meeting today and we will find out at 1730 what is happening with the regional lock downs.
