The South African variant of COVID-19 could “break through” the defences of the Pfizer vaccine, according to a new study out of Israel.
It compared 400 people who had received one or two doses of vaccine but had tested positive for the virus after two weeks, with the same number of unvaccinated patients with COVID-19, reported The Straits Time.
The study, which has not yet been peer reviewed, came from the Tel Aviv University and Israel’s largest healthcare provider, Clalit, and uncovered the South African variant in about one per cent of cases.
But patients who had received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine had the South African strain — known as the B1351 variant — eight times higher than those unvaccinated.

There is a small possibility that flu vaccine could be associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome, generally no more than 1 or 2 cases per million people vaccinated. This is much lower than the risk of severe complications from flu, which can be prevented by flu vaccine.

I know that the question is "what if I am that 1 in a million?" but we all (mostly) seem happy enough to play those odds when it comes to the established vaccines and medicines. As reported in the news, oral contraceptives have a much higher rate of risk for blood clotting but women accept that risk too (I wonder if us blokes would have taken on the responsibility if it was us that had to take it).

I suppose the real question might be "what else is yet to be discovered that might cause us harm?" and that might be what is causing the hesitation. I suppose that question can be answered by the uneventful vaccination of the many millions of people around the world.

Wow! That's about 1 dose per minute, 24hrs a day for 9 days PER DOCTOR!!! They must've had some help . . . great effort though.

Yes, all rational thinking goes out the window when it's your arse on the line. Any way, by the time the vaccine gets to me, the way it is going, It will probably be a completely different one. And in the back of the mind I know the flu vaccine has had long enough to dispel any doubts. Doubts are forming over these covid ones. Especially doubts about our fearless leaders veracity.

It's too late now shipmate but I can chuck you some blood thinners if it helps. OR, you can finish off the Litre of Navy Rum, now that should protect you from everybloodythingknown to man.
