They have located the location of the original infection - which was at a Thai restaurant (and one of the infected wasn't even sitting at a table with the index case) so at least that's a better result than the last time around ....

Georgia Tech have built a tool that lets you calculate the risk of a covid positive person being at a function you might be attending on New Years eve. We've spent some time in Angels Camp, a small town in the Sierra foothills in California. Since we don't like people much we elected to have 10 guests at our imaginary function. The chance of one of them being covid positive - 26%, it really illustrates how well Australia is doing in comparison.

Yes, Victoria has things well under control, it seems. That's a relief. It would be so demoralising for Victorians to have to go through all the trauma of their earlier experience. At least one of the three was a returning traveller who came back before permits were in place, so slipped through the system. 8 more cases in Vic. , so far.

Melbourne is really stepping up in regards to COVID-19.Just went for a walk to the shops and 90% of the people on the street were wearing masks. We haven't been told to wear masks outside.Everyone's simply choosing to do what they can to prevent another outbreak. #COVID19Vic

I've been in the City a couple of times in the last fortnight and at least half of the people in the City have been wearing masks on the street, even though it isn't required and hasn't been required for some time. Ditto for my neighbourhood.

I've only seen one person not wearing a mask in a shop and the staff went to track him down.

It's now fact that masks are an essential part of the COVID fight. I can only think that the NSW government's refusal to make them mandatory is the result of pig headed hubris. At the end of this, if not too much collateral damage is done, they will claim a victory. Some victory. Because they didn't go into hard lockdown from the start, the virus spread to greater Sydney, then further afield in NSW, then to Victoria. This resulted in hard lock down for the NSW border [ which we are led to believe will result in untold damage to the Australian economy , if you recall the earlier outcry.] No shrill cries about that now .
