Of course it is the Govts fault. It is always the Govts fault no matter what the problem is.

    You should know that.
Well I don't know who is at fault, but here is the opinion of Stephen Duckett, Director health program , Gratten Institute. Under the headings 1 The wrong Pace, 2 The wrong Phasing, 3 The wrong model,4 The wrong messaging. The bulk of the article will be in CA, so as not to upset mods.

mRNA is a very new technology and was not approved for use until last year(I believe). So, locally no one was willing to invest in it or fund it. The time it takes for a new facility to be commissioned is not only dependent on the build process but also the certification process which is the more onerous of the two. Now that it is clear what it means to have local supply, we now have a government that is motivated to make it happen and provide funding which means companies like Moderna are now interested...especially Moderna as they are a new company (10 years) and I believe their covid19 vax will be their 1st approved product to market....need to check all that though. Ideally we as a country can get to the point where we are the innovators of these sorts of products rather than just producing them on license for OS companies.

I think part of the issue is that many people in the various phases were dragging their heals which, along with the supply issues, was impacting the speed if the rollout. By opening it up more people willing to get vaccinated showed up which of course highlighted the supply issues.

im on the fence about a vaccination being mandatory for a job. on one hand, jobs have physical requirements that need to be met (ie firefighter) but on the other hand, my body, my choice. and long term impact still not known.
Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I don't think they really care about the individual as such other than what you can do to others by not being vaccinated. Imagine an unvaccinated/infected health worker spreading the virus to unwell people in hospital causing long term health issues or death...not good.

not much different to an infected member of the public visiting a hospital.

What I am trying to say is, is that the hysteria of last year about how lethal this virus was, remember, when the planet's population was going to be wiped out, is not borne out by figures i.e. worldwide 182,000,000 cases and 3,900,000 deaths. Now, I know a lot of deaths would not be recorded but, neither would a lot of cases.

That is either a misunderstanding of what was said or a misrepresentation or both.

What health experts who know how exponential growth works said was that we might see those numbers if nothing was done to stop the spread of the virus.

We did something about it, so we didn't see those numbers. That is exactly the outcome you would hope for or expect.

Some media may have taken part of their comment to create sensational headlines, but that doesn't mean the experts were wrong.

Now that you have seen how rapidly exponential growth can produce terrifying numbers, what is your layman's estimate of the number of deaths we might have seen if no attempt was made to control the spread of the virus?

IMHO it is different, visitors are subject to pretty strict entry conditions and can only visit one patient or are themselves a patient with social distancing enforced. Health workers interact repeatedly with many patients and coworkers in close quarters.

They can make enough - it is just that it is going to customers who got in the queue before us and they are providing to us what we contracted. We have to wait our turn.
