Thread: I got SCAMMED ! WARNING ABOUT OLD PAYPAL ACCOUNTS

Yesterday I got 2 emails from paypal saying they are processing 2 transactions which are transferring funds from my bank into my paypal account.

I ignored them as spam phishing.
Today I used my personal visa debit to make a small in store purchase, I had a balance of $600ish in there.
I get home log into my bank acc and fins I am overdrawn nearly $8000! The references were PAYPAL AUST.

So I go to my Business Paypal account and no extra money is there,
I ring the bank and bock my card, the bank informs me that the transactionswill be reversed tomorrow as there were insufficient funds to complete the request, they also said to ring paypalbto find out how this happpened. So I ring pay pal and spoke to a lady in Arisona USA She checked the transaction s and told me the emails received were legit, but were not related to my business paypal account but to a personal Paypal account I have not used for some time.
She explained that someone had got hold of littleused paypal account and cracked my password and was using it to transfer my money from the bank to my paypal account and then will redirect the funds to their account or make purchases.Paypal tellls me as there was insufffient funds in my bank to complete transaction they will not proceed and not to worry.
We blocked that account also.
I'm lucky they didn't get into my other account and cleaned me out.

So warning if you have a little used paypal account.

I am with you V8Ian, when booking motels I always book directly with the motel & always pay same price as I would have if I booked through an agent who is going to take there cut out of the price so motel is out of pocket.
