Thread: New anti-flu pill approved for use in Australia.

Came across this recently, finding uses for older, cheap drugs.
On another forum, they speak of a 'shortage' and difficulty in filling prescriptions - for the folk who need it for lupus or rheumatism - or even malaria.
Apparantly it can be used to ward off a possible COV infection after exposure, though it can produce some challenging side-effects.

About $18 at a large chemist chain.

Sadly, there is no cure for the FEAR being spread around, and when you think about it, this plague is a Capitalist's delight.- Takes out the older, high(er) national medical - cost patients, thus reducing government (age) Pension co$ts, freeing up their money for the younger & less wise beneficiaris to spend... and invest.

Pickles, no one knows how long a vaccine is away. Every one is aware of what the rules are. I suggest those breaking the rules are not on this forum. You may have to take your crusade elsewhere.

It is used to treat influenza, NOT Covid19.
Cost ~$US150 it seems.

It was never touted to be any thing to do with COVID-19. Costing in Aus. hasn't been published yet. It wont be ready until next year here apparently. The consequences of getting the flu, and COVID, are not good. So, if this pill knocks the flu on the head quickly, as they say it does, it's a good thing.

Yes this treatment for flu should not be confused with a treatment for Covid.

You raise an interesting point about getting the flu and covid at the same time.

There are some in the medical fraternity that believe that it is almost 100% unlikely to get something else when your body is already under attack from something like the flu or a cold. This is because the immune system is already hyper active and goes on the attack to attack anything it thinks is a threat and may indeed attack your own cells.

For example, the logic goes that if you had a cold you are unlikely to also get the flu at the same time as your heightened immune system (because of the cold) will kill any flu bugs before they can take hold and (in my view a long bow to draw), some consider the heightened immune system may kill some cancers if they form at the same time.

So if this theory is correct, it may not be possible to have flu and covid at the same time, but I suspect it is too early to know.
