Friends left their caravan in my backyard while they did a cruise from Mauritius to Venice followed by a Bus tour to London, total 6 weeks away.
Last Thursday week I dropped them at the Brisbane airport only to go and pick them up on Tuesday this week.
They are now quarantined in our backyard for 14 days.
They are disappointed with the Australian travel group who told them it’s going to be okay everything is fine and the Italian cruise line captain for not having the guts to front his passengers when they were told to leave the ship.
They had a feeling it was going to go pear shaped before they left but decided they had to do what was asked by everyone to have any chance of refunds or insurance claims.
I was due to take the family on our first real holiday in 12 years to the Gold Coast (all the theme parks, etc) in a week. My girls are pretty devistated but understand why we cant go.
We were due to go to Brisbane for 3 weeks starting April 1st, for 2 grandchildren's birthdays. Son rang last week and said "don't come". We were thinking of not going anyway. First time we'll miss a grandchild's first birthday. We were driving up so nothing to cancel.
Also cancelled a planned trip to NZ in May/June, again for GC birthdays. Only flights booked and got a full refund for them.
Only other thing we had to cancel were house sitters. Just got an email from house sitters for another planned Brisbane trip in November. They said they were cancelling early, as they had been left a bit stranded by last minute cancellations. Totally understandable. Not sure that trip will happen at this stage either.
Have had to cancel a trip to cape York in June. After years of saying I wanted to do this trip, I finally put in my leave and now have had to cancel. [emoji17]
Small stuff I know, but, Wycheproof Small Halls Concert cancelled, $s refunded, Motel booking (normally 3 days) cancelled.
HSVFEST, HSVOC Event in Albury Wodonga, 150 cars, 300+ people (June) cancelled, fees refunded, multiple motel bookings for all participants, all cancelled. No cancellation fees.
Wife booked to go to Europe in August for The Oberamagau Passion play, will in all probability be cancelled, she's paid a $3K deposit.
George Benson Concert Melb, no word yet, but will obviously be cancelled.
My Sister & Brother in Law, had booked "the trip of a lifetime" 7 week European tour, they've paid mega dollars, don't know what will be refunded.
Plus, as we're both retired, we like to get away regularly to various parts of regional Victoria, we're staying at home, we feel that it's the safest place, and yep, we're worried about the dollars.
I can see what a massive impact this will have on the viability of World Tourism Organizations.
Pickles.
Have Cape Leveque and Gibb River Road trip planned for July. Haven’t cancelled as yet as I guess the few accommodations I’ve pre-booked will cancel on my behalf closer to the time when more is known. They may have relaxed restrictions by then - not to say it’ll be over, but may have relaxed current approach. It’s too soon to say.
