    Cancelled Trips due to COVID-19

Who has had to cancel or postpone (that sounds better) trips and what has your experience been?

We have just cancelled 11 weeks in Europe which involved -
    55 x Accommodation bookings
4 x Air flights - on hold for 12 mths
    2 x Rental cars - Ireland & UK
    1 x Lease car - Italy
1 x Ferry booking - Italy to Croatia

Apart from the air fares being on hold, all other expenses were fully refunded except for a small cancellation fee for the ferry and a $400 cancellation fee for the lease car. I think I'll stick to rentals in future!

I thought about posting this thread in the Travel Section but couldn't find a suitable category to cover domestic and international trips.

Daughters location wedding in hunter valley ,paid off the amount over the last 12 months , no refund and a fee to transfer the date. oh and cant transfer to a weekend as they attract a premium ( which we paid for ) but they don't want to loose out on a future premium booking.. no wonder people don't support businesses in this country..

I'd be disputing that cancellation fee, that is outrageous.

We had a holiday to Tasmania booked for the end of Jan but the father-in-law was in palliative care so we cancelled and moved the holiday to the two weeks before Easter. No issue at all, Ferry, B&B's holiday parks etc. all moved the dates without issue.

Earlier this week had to cancel again due to the travel restrictions.
One place we were stopping said we could re-book later in the year (OK because we do intend to go), one place charged a $35 cancellation fee because 'we had decided to cancel', everyone else including the ferry refunded in full.
I know it's only $35 and that they are going to lose a lot of trade but a charge because we weren't going to self isolate at their holiday park ?!

We also had a holiday booked for Tasmania late next month.

Only had the ferry booked, was refunded fully.

No accomodation booked,we use the RTT,and if we need accomodation, book as we travel.

All good at my end but know a few people that are affected.
1 - was suppose to be going to the UK for a wedding in a couple of weeks - that is now cancelled.
2 other people I know had quit their job and were planning on doing a working Holiday in the UK, one is now looking for work in OZ, the other not too sure what they are going to do as renters are due to move into her house next week.

Other friends had a USA trip planned over the next month or two - have not heard whats up with them yet.

Not me, but two of my grandchildren (and a friend) were supposed to be leaving yesterday for a trip to Japan, booked six months ago. A couple of weeks ago, under parental pressure, they changed it to June, and yesterday changed it to this time next year. Not sure how much the adjustment is costing.

We also had a trip to Tassie planned, cancelled it and the owner of the hotel in Hobart refunded in full without any quibble at all; I will make every effort to deal with him again when we finally do get to go. Ferry was totally refunded.

My daughter and her husband got home today after one week of their 3 week holiday in the US. Cost them a bomb, airlines stung them to change their flight bookings, hotels stung them when they decided to do a road trip as the festival they were planning on attending was cancelled the day before they left. They're spending the rest of their 3 week holiday in home isolation, watching TV for free instead of paying to sit and watch TV in a hotel over there.
