In the Central Coast NSW we have 4 free vegetation or household waste pickups per year. All you do is book on line 3 days before.

The waste station in Cullens Road Kincumber is closed now but usually oil up to 20 litres free, batteries free, tyres attached to wheels free, gas cylinders $6, and tyres AFAIR $10.

The dump fees go on weight and I had to pay I think $50 to dump a lounge suite.

You can get quite a lot in the supposed 1 cubic metre of vegetation that they collect on Friday mornings.
I really think it is a pretty good system.
i usually break down old stuff like Microwaves and just put them in the bin.

Coming home with three quarters of a metre of super soil and 3x3m sleepers, so it should be on the 750kg rating now. Will see how it goes up the steep range to Maleny.

I've had a bit of fun today. Yesterday, I ventured out for a couple of hours. This was caused by necessity as, last weekend in the wee hours of the morning, my dear wife managed to destroy the opening/locking mechanism in the door handle of the smallest room in the house, whilst trying to exit.
The lock's innards were in such disarray that even the external, emergency button on the handle wouldn't work. I was awakened by a plaintive cry for help and leapt out of bed to rescue fair maiden........and then I woke up!
After about half an hour, with a lot of twisting and turning of both handles, we managed to open the door.
This meant a trip to the big, green B for a new handle.
While I was there, I noticed a butane blow, heat and multi-tip soldering gun and I couldn't resist the temptation to purchase.
I've spent the morn resoldering an old, gal watering can that had seen better days, fully renewed all joins in the 12v wiring and switch from the battery to the 160 litre spray tank in the back of the ATV and removed some unsightly paint from an old chair that my sister wants.
    What a great little gizmo!

Mike how would you like to extend your feeling of achievement in the Adelaide hills? It ok for you with your 5T digger but some of us don't have that luxury.

On second thoughts since you seemed to make a dog's breakfast of doing your yard I retract that request.

I'll get some Semtex & make a neater job.

Anyone who lives on a rural or even semi-rural property knows the crap that goes along with high winds & rain as there is ALWAYS crap to clean up Dump /burn.

Of course you needed to solder said Watering Can , Steve, just to show 'er indoors it was essential to do & now I suppose your blowtorch is residing on the shelf waiting for the next big emergency so you again can spring into action.
I have often wondered what I would do in that situation ie. Choose the Block splitter, call the CFS & give Eevo & his mates a laugh or leave her there for a couple of hours to get some peace & quiet?

Although I should imagine there wouldn't be much of that going on with indoors hollering in the background. Seriously though, yes really, a good case for toilet doors to be swung to the outer side in case someone collapses in the dunny like my Mother did I don't know what she was thinking, all by herself & shutting the dunny door when no-one else was in the house. Unfortunately she was dead by the time they got her out so unaware if she was dead when she collapsed or Died when she couldn't get out.

    Talk about being caught short.

Steve, in your case it wouldn't have made a lot of difference since the lock was already buggered but if you'd chosen to go down the Block Splitter Route & needed a new door you could have justified also buying a heap of Woodworking gear & boxes of Misc Screws, new Painting stuff. Well, I would have.

I did find out something today whilst using said butane tool and that was that my soldering skills are commensurate with my eyesight powers.

You couldn't sleep through that? A golden opportunity missed.
Could you whistle this tune to Helen?

Vince Lester, a Queensland politician of yore, had legislation enacted, resulting in dunny doors being hung in such fashion. Apart from walking backwards, from the 'Curry to the Isa, or some other couple of country towns, he wasn't known for much else outside of his electorate.
