Yeah, but we’d be coming out through Cook. Coober Pedy to the Nullabor Roadhouse is around 840km.

Either way, it’s too far for the standard tank.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Sorry Jon, I wasn't correcting your distance, just showing that the direct route across the Anne Beadell was also too far. My appetite has been whetted since my last Sept trip that included Maralinga but I think that I'd need a suitable camper trailer making the tow vehicle's standard tank size not so much of an issue.

I'm astounded that no-one has complained about the wind noise from that case outside the side window.

No worries Graeme. My appetite is also well and truly whet, but sadly its looking like we’ll need to wait until next year now.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Unfortunately he's only reviewed reviews and hasn't driven one himself.

I do a couple of big trips each year and hardly ever carry any extra fuel, just a jerry tied up never gets used.

I'm talking real remote. Theres really no such thing now.

Well, this year we were planning on a "Off-Track" Trip across the desert where the fuel capacity needed was in excess of 200ltrs per vehicle. With these sort of trips you need to give yourself a good safety barrier when it comes to fuel as u don't know exactly your direction, your economy or whether u will end up having to return via the way u came in or have to exit in a totally different direction an 80-85ltrs + a few jerrycans may not do, especially if u have more than a few people in your car...

For me and where I like going, 80-85ltrs is just not good enough... plus having the ability to "not" fill up in some expensive locations is a real benefit too. If u can miss having to pay over $3/ltr in some spots and make it to a cheaper spot, then u have just saved yourself a fair few dollars then...

And Yes... there is still plenty of places u can go remote touring long distance

Our 110 with the 120 litre tank can do about 950 ks while towing the camper, which can carry another 2 x 20 litre drums, so 160 litres total. I havent done it, but I reckon we could manage about 1100 ks plus of light-footed driving. Plus any drums on the roof rack.
Can the new Defender ever get near that?

Its not just point to point driving.

A larger tank would be handy in many situations, particularly if towing.

This topic has been done to death on here many times.....

And Mick, how would you go if you had the standard tank in the deefer?
    A PITA i recon.

Yes, I agree about tje standard tank.
In our current situation, on Tuesday we will drive off the Spirit in Melbourne and set out to drive to the Sunshine Coast, so having the larger tank might mean one less fuel stop, which is good.

Watched a couple of reviews on youtube and not one of them is presented by someone who is actually an offroad driver, just some young metros with their skinny shorts and white tee shirts.
