    What year is the Disco?

Only the later model run came with it standard ,’03 and ‘04,so it would have been added aftermarket,as yours looks like an earlier model.

Anyway, keep it up,you seem to be having heaps of fun

    Early last year OMG!

Still could be any of the above, when you get some dosh have it looked at if you wish to continue your "Desert Treks" AHA may be able to have a quick look see for you, by arrangement of course.

You will know for sure before tackling any thing a bit dodgy. A reliable & working CDL could be your lifesaver.

Paul, my '95 D1 face lift MA had it as standard on delivery. Was pleased I had it on only a few occasions.

I'd be looking for a loose, dirty or otherwise dodgy connection. Send your Dad under for a squiz, he's got nothing better to do.
Psst, don't tell him I said that.

The COVID-19 & Corona free thread.

Epic - easy to check if CDL is working.

How to test function of CDL/center differential lock on a Land Rover Discovery 2 (and others) - YouTube

Video explanations take forever but it is as simple as park on flat ground - engine off - chock wheels - stick gearbox in neutral - jack up one wheel and it can freely spin. Engage CDL and it should not spin.

Yep, that sounds like the less expensive way to go but it may not fix her light but at least Epic will confirm the CDL operates as it should. Or not.

But it disappeared from the D2 for a few years.
Some blamed LR’s new owners,BMW,at the time.
They thought Traction Control was good enough without it,how wrong they were…

LR actually listened and it reappeared in the D2a.

I had D2 models with out and with, with being far more capable in many situations.

With Epics beast,if it was fitted aftermarket which it probably was, then the light may never have worked properly.

In fact watching the tiktok video again I suspect it is not working (or just wasn’t being used) and it was only when the traction control kicked in that Leonie was able to overcome the obstacle.

The opening shot looks like both front wheels are not turning when the right rear spins - but it is hard to tell as the left front is in shadow at the time.

Then there is a moment when the front right is spinning in free air but you don’t see dust being thrown up from the rear. The traction control then brakes the spinning wheel and transfers the drive to the wheel with traction.

It is a great demo on how good the traction control is as it is all done nice and slow. Would be great to see the original video.

the left rear was spinning when front right was, it had no traction either was in another hole and not sure it reached the bottom, but the back right and front left had traction but they didnt then 'drive'. I thought the ones with the most traction should get the go juice and allow driving up. I had CDL engaged on the stick at the time. A maxtrax was placed under the left rear wheel, and then whilst it spun on it, i climbed out. It behaved different to how i remember, and then occured to me that the light hasnt come on so maybe it was not engaged right. I am going to try that you tube method of testing! then go from there

    hahahah dad works full time

Ah right, though I did have a feeling in my acidic H2o something like that occurred

They must have employed Dummies during that period.
