Premium roadside assistance has been great value for me. The last occasion was a trans cooler pipe failure at the end of the 1st day of a big road trip with the camper. I was given 3 tows. Firstly side of the road outside Roma to caravan PK for the camper, and car to mechanic. Second, mechanic to JLR Toowoomba for repair (repair quote $20kRACQ anyone? or whatever it is south of the border.) and van to caravan park. After quote decided to tow the lot Hm and deal with it later. So final tow was both back to Brisbane.

    All tows fully covered.

And that was my 3rd big tow incident while a long way from Hm. All covered.

I'll have to look into that. RACV TC officially only covers 100km tows, unless the car is OTR for more than 3 days or something. (That's what the towie used for Chris' Patrol, as it had water in the cylinder and wouldn't turn over. HG or head for sure. { It was, I fixed it. Cracked head }) Is RACQ Premium the same, I wonder.

With RACV Total Care you can register the wife's car against your membership number.
You personally are covered in any car you drive, adding the wife's car means she's covered as well. But....when you change her car remember to change the rego logged with them ! Wife had a flat, phoned them and the new car hadn't been registered with them. Fortunately it was no problem updating the details. As it happened they were going to take too long to arrive so she changed the wheel herself.

Used it once with the Territory when the starter motor died (tilt trayed home), and with another Territory when the battery failed but otherwise like any insurance it's peace of mind. So far haven't had to call them out for any of the Land Rovers (fingers crossed).

I did read that they had 'watered down' the cover in recent years but haven't checked the small print recently.
Just did....towing 100km with Total Care, 20km with Roadside Care !!

I did that as well. I don't think it needs to be a spouse, but I'm not sure. I think it needs to be a CAR, one that someone else drives. But don't quote me.

The " any car you drive" doesn't cover B-Doubles though Not that I blame them....

Been driving for 53 years, been a member for 53 years.

Several vehicles in that time. SWMBO member in a package deal.

Callouts for a stone behind a brake disc and no suitable gear, 2 dead batteries, dead alternator, fan belt, keys in the car, broken axle, broken con-rod/piston, broken oil pump (floated vehicle/towed van for 60km and ten km, hired a replacement vehicle until repaired and helped with accomm costs). All in my home state.

    Nothing out of state.

    But great peace of mind.

Like health insurance - you only need them a couple of times plus the knowledge that even at 2:00a.m. you can get a friendly face to come out to help you.............

    Go for it.

I’ve been a base member of RACQ for 50+ yrs. I have only tried to use LR assist once. A problem with the boat trailer - not covered.

That prompted an upgrade to RACQ Platinum membership which covers the boat trailer as well. Never bother with LR assist again.

I am a motor mechanic by trade but still have RACQ . Just one call out a year for a battery problem , need a tow & you have got your money back. As your vehicle gets older & comes out of warranty there is more chance of needing them . It is also a safe guard for you partner.

We have been with RACQ for yonks. In 2005 I upgraded to their top level, as I did a 14 week outback Qld, NT, Kimberley, Pilbara, Gunbarrel, Simmo trek. I have remained on the high level as it is the persons who are covered really. It doesn't matter what or whose vehicle I am driving if something goes awry. I used it a few years ago with my nephews 'tilly needing a hand. That's the 1st time I met JerryD, from memory. He wasn't part of the RACQ service so, don't panic. He was just being an helpful bloke.

NRMA Premium Care here. A few years ago my D1 300tdi water pump collapsed at Cocklebiddy. Trayed to Norseman and gave me accomodation for the night. No questions asked. About two years ago my VE Commodore did the motor south of Grafton (en route to Gold Coast) supplied hire care for free and when I got back to Grafton, took me and the Commodore home to Bathurst. Again, no questions asked. Couldn't ask for better! Well worth the money.
