I hope that happens to the defender manual that lost it's way to my place from England![]()
I’ll put money on it just “turning up out of the blue”.
When workers at AP realise they made an error they tend to just re-route parcels without updating tracking.

EBay is Heavily slanted towards the buyer that's why sellers send things registered mail so that They have some protection from the many scam artists that cry "Non delivery" even when they Have received their purchase so that they can get a refund.
IF the tracking doesn't show that something has been "Delivered" after a "Reasonable" period of time Most sellers will issue a refund/replacement.
Aus Post is NOT the fastest way to send stuff and quite frankly Most Couriers are even slower so some "Patience" should be used when waiting for a purchase especially during this virus emergency.
I have bought and sold on eBay and the "Etiquette" is be Patient and communicate with the seller/buyer and don't jump the gun or leave crappy feedback simply because Aus post or a courier dropped the ball causing a late or Missing delivery.

Yesterday Aust Post said the item was lost based on no scans since the item was received at the mail centre. Then the seller got back to me with this "From Australia Post : I've checked the tracking for parcel XXXXXXX and can see that it was estimated to be delivered 24/03/2020. Although it's definitely later than we would normally expect, there has been another scan on the parcel 31/03/2020, indicating it's still on it's way, and I'd estimate it'll be with your addressee by 02/04/2020."
So yesterday it was lost with no scans and now - just as enquiries were made - now another scan turns up - hmmm - you gotta love Australia Post.

At one stage early in the life of Brian's Retirement Sale I tried selling my machine shop supplies and engineer's tools on e-Bay. I sacked them when a client claimed the goods were not as advertised. They most certainly were. HSS taps and dies of machine shop quality. Pay Pal took the payment back out of my bank account. I was not listened too by Pay Pal. They believed a lying cheating customer.
So I stopped selling on e-Bay.

If it is lost in the post eBay should refund your money I think there may be a small fee but not much you should get most of your money back
Yes - I will get it all back (in a worse case scenario I can just do a charge back on my credit card if Ebay or paypal do not come to the party) - however the seller looses the item - not normally worried about a business with thousands of sales and a 97% feedback but when it is an individual with 100% feedback trying to help as much as possible.
Hence the "Etiquette" issue in the thread title. The problem is not mine and it is not the sellers, it is the crappy system that is Aust Post.
Cheers

I trust that you are aware that eBay has an escalation process, in the same way that telcos do. Thankfully you don't need an ombudsman to access it. I found them to be very helpful. Of course, eBay is geared, on the surface, towards the buyer. But it worked for me.
If AP, or an employee or agent has rifled your package then it's tough luck for the vendor though. There is a Latin expression, caveat emptor, 'buyer beware'. eBay needs to add 'caveat venditor', ' seller beware'.
The online market is fraught for both parties.
