Are you thinking of the Aspley Acres welfare ghetto? I was thinking of the one on Gympie Road almost opposite Robinson Rd. intersection. All shops and offices now.

A mate and I were driving home late one night from the Lakeside Tasman Series after race party at Doug Bright's place. Absolutely drunk as skunks both of us. I was sitting probably semi-conscious in the passenger seat when I saw what I thought was a camel at the caravan park. My God, thought I, I am so ****ed I am hallucinating. Never said anything. A short distance on and the driver nudged me and in quiet worried voice asked if I had seen a camel back there. Whew! Not in the horrors after all.

This was the year Graham Hill was there. He was at the after party with his wife, Betty. Graham attached himself to Miss Lakeside and disappeared with her leaving Betty behind at the party. They were missing for 2-3 days.

Yes, Aspley Acres was where I was thinking. You're right about it being a ghetto, an odd place for such an establishment, amongst all the posh houses.
I remember when Beams Road was dirt and the level crossing gates were operated, manually, by a woman who lived in a house, in the middle of nowhere, beside the crossing.

Gotta say, that's a cracker. I've been wondering if the 770/Opticruise setup could be shoehorned into my Oka. I put half a million Ks on a 730 R Series PM. That thing was awesome.

I thought this was an April Fools joke when I first saw this idea of tripling the parking fees for SUV's but it seems a similar proposal in Paris actually came in to effect.
