No it couldn't go on the roof as it is way to heavy. It is cross between a wheel chair and one of those scooter. I said to Mario that we might buy a normal wheel chair ourself, if i can push one that we used at Bunnings a few months ago, I could push him around on the flat at shopping centres, or we could use the one at the shopping centres that lend them out. The bed is the next thing, and yes it will be one that goes up and down and bends. Some just look like a normal bed as it has a normal base around the sides and you can get a matching bed head for it. Also the OT it looking for a mattress that fills with air but has a foam top. It would make it easier for Mario to transition from the normal mattress he has now to the other one. I am thankful that we have a person to manage it for us getting OT, physio, builders, Outside lift company etc, as it would have been to much for me. as looking after him/business/house. But I am managing thing fine at the moment.
Good to hear about the bed. They are great.
The scooter is certainly heavier than I realised. How about one of the trailers that are used to tow golf carts, with built-in ramps?
The Electric wheel chair is quite heavy and, I don't think Heather would be comfortable towing a trailer around, and trying to find parking spots , I asked about some sort of bumper end carrier platform arrangement thing, they said too much weight for that. Also it would be exposed to road grime and weather. A friend has a son in a wheel chair and the have a van with a hydraulic lifting crane to get theirs into the back,
presently we are not in a position to purchase a people mover type of vehicle and Heather doesn't like driving and parking big vehicles. an NDIS conversion of a vehicle would have to wait until next plan meeting in 12 months.
I will be become a public transport user once I get the gift of it.
Our neighbour had a Renault kangoo wheelchair accessible car for his late wife.
Smallish wagon with lots of head room.
Im so glad things are progressing with NDIS now, I hopeit'sall fast nowand you canenjoy mobility and normal sort ofthings like self care etc :) I really think they should also have fellow disabled folks working there as I think that will improve so much. It took me 12 months of hoop jumping to get on ndis, which I did finally start of March. My OT is amazing and plan lady is lovely. So far I've only have the wheelchair being built (using a borrowed one right now) they pushed that through so fast once was on the system. I haven't got any support workers yet with the current world apocolypse. But also have some bathroom mod funds too but not sure how to actually use the funds. I have to have a driving assessment with an driving OT too in my car which once it's all mechanically safe again, I can. Will be fitting and exploring more suitable mods and a lift in the back to lift wheelchair in and out :)
Got lots of OT hours for things so am super keen for the future with ndis helping to live well :) and providing support to achieve that. Mostly keen for my wheelchair and freedom [emoji7][emoji7] supermarket errands here I come!!!
If you need a wheelchair to get you by till you get yours, I've got a spare here and can send it your way :) Its a folding one but has served me well (have a lighter rigid one on loan right now but my own is only a few weeks off)
