That was the first weighbridge I was going to try. However something was wrong with their phone. When I got through to them they would only accept cash payment. Since I was in Bundaberg that was a tad hard. The weighbridge at St Mary's accepted alternative forms of payment. Off to St Mary's Bluey went!

Despite the new to the hire company's trailer fleet being an upgraded 3.5 tonne version, it was a little narrow when a set of dual tyres is loaded on. Plenty of clearance with only three of the four tyres on the back axle. Four tyres on the back axle ... no. The tyre we removed took a ride in the back of my Commodore wagon home. It will soon be reunited within its colleagues.

Update: the removed tyre is back on the truck. The battery is charging and questions asked and research is being performed about the Holley 350 CFM 74481 Double barrel carburettor that is fitted to Bluey's 302 Cleveland motor.

Also, the differences in ignition coils for said motor. Such as is having an extra letter ... "B" on the end of a product code for an ignition coil make it unsuitable for an engine. The coil's website recommends TIC 034R and the coil currently fitted to Bluey is a TIC 034RB apparently the R means that it needs a Resistor... Cannot find an explanation for the "B" bit and if it makes a difference to the coils performance or suitability to Bluey's engine.

I am just back from the autoparts place. I was informed that the XAs were fitted with a resistance wire in their loom. Hopefully it is still there and functioning. I brought a Bosch coil back home, one that is listed as being the correct one for the motor.

The resistor is bypassed while the key is in the start position. Does the dizzy have points?
302Cs were available from XW (1968) to XC (1979), there was a lot of variation in carburation and firing over that period. Your engine may have come out of an XA, but did it start its life there? V8 conversions were popular with backyard hotrodders and workshops, alike. You will be able to determine the original source from the engine number.

Hi Alan I do think that they all had a white roof. I was nearly always in SA/NT during that era but I think as it was a national body they would all be the same. All vehicles had Z Commonwealth number plates at the time.

Here are a couple in about 1987 at Oodnadatta. I think we were called Department of Aviation then. This is scanned from a print so the colour is not accurate. cheers Peter
