I URGE EVERYONE TO READ THIS TO THE END OF THE ARTICLE.

Unless you know more than the author , I beg you not to comment or contradict what's been written here.

I hope it can remain open for long enough for many to read without resorting to moderators.

It is not really enjoyable reading because it slams us all in the face.

I URGE EVERYONE TO READ THIS TO THE END OF THE ARTICLE.

Nothing wrong with that. A good discussion article.

I’ve made a few comments that this should be taken as an opportunity for a reset in thinking.

I read it, there's not much in there that hasn't been said before & I can't see any reason at all why Mods, or anyone else for that matter, would have any issue with it.

The Gaian Theorists have been saying all this for what - 40 years or so?
I remember reading nearly the same words in an article written in the 80s , the monster under the bed then was Ozone Depletion - the earth will throw of parasite humans - she is overwhelmed and this ozone depletion is the beginning of the end

It wasn’t - humans figured a way around the problem

And for better or worse we will figure a way to deal with a virus that has near worldwide reach and sub 1% mortality. Even if the Coronafest does its worst - reducing the world population by 35mill... that will do little to change resource utilisation and conversely the boom following the virus will likely counter any resource saving during the outbreak.

Paris agreement is off the table now (this imho is a terrible reality) but developed nations will contract to a needs basis of building their economies at all costs.

A virus with a minimal mortality rate will not bring about the change the author wants... perhaps nothing will? The human condition and world economy is largely indifferent to that of a virus. Exponential Growth at all costs.

A dirty great asteroid on the other hand - now that could “fix parasite humans” if of course that is how you view humanity

Yes, I see nothing wrong with the article and can't see any reason why this thread may or may not need moderating.

I really don't think there is anything in that article that should make anyone that has half a brain to say "OMG! what what? this can't be true"
I'm sure intelligent people realise that as a human race we are both screwing over life and the planet ten fold with the endless human consumerism that is our current life.

A positive side of when the total collapse of the industrial world as we know it happens is the planet will recover all by itself.
Unfortunately the above is more likely to happen before a overall willingness to change our current ways.
People (as a whole) need to be dragged kicking and screaming to a change.
Industry / global corporations again will need to be dragged, kicked, forced to change before they give up a culture of maximizing profits over everything else including life on earth.

The artical stated the bleeding obvious.
Unfortunatly most people & businesses are greedy & self centered.
I hope the "New Normal" is different but don't hold out much hope.
I was young but recall people & the world had more of a social/enviromental concous in the 1970's than now.
Maybe the influance of Mrs Thatcher & Mr Ragan?

Quite right. Such is the system the species in question has developed. An economic cycle has developed from the ecological s-curve? Vice versa? A hybrid cyclic ecology of missed signs and lessons?
