Think what we are seeing today is the logical outcome of the societal shift that started in the sixties to the me be me brigade. They discovered self and placed that ahead of everything else. If I am all right it must be good. Then said this was a good thing that everyone should indulge in. Which we have with increasing gusto that has reached all levels of society and business.

Worked for a company which the founders had written into the constitution 100 years ago that the priorities were staff, customers then shareholders. In the new world this was reinterpreted into share holders first as if they were not happy the other two could not be accomplished. Perhaps time to promote us us us

If this is too political please delete

Was that one of the large department stores in the UK, I can't remember which, but their staff all get given shares in the company?

The company I was referring to is in Australia. This happened in the early nineteen nineties. Has not done them a lot of good as they are following metrics which have resulted in the business shrinking due to short term decisions. Would these have been made anyway is a question for another day and thread

You are thinking of the John Lewis departments stores here in the U.K. which the founder gifted to the employees in his will. Business is still owned by the employees today. There was an attempt by outsiders to buy it about 15 years ago but the employees were able to fight them off
