I started work young after being expelled from school at 14 so by the time i got my license i have saved up to buy my want cars , but sadly started with a dato 120y
untitled.jpg certainly wasn't the chick magnet that's for sure
next came the start of the Ford obsession
images.jpg had dreams of tuning it in to the interceptor from Mad Max but then got side tracked with the chevy craze

chev 55.png 1955 chev , which lasted about 4 months till the Gt craze arrived
GT falcon.pngThis isn't mine but I had the same colour and year ,but everyone was building XY faker shakers so decided an XR Gt was less common

1967-ford-falcon-xr-gt-sedan.jpgWish I had of kept this GT , but I did return to the XR a few years later. A girlfriend was a Holden fan so decided I might go down that road to impress her ,started with the Monaro , everyone was into the SLR 5000 at that stage , so I decided on the LE - not mine but they were all basically the same
le monaro.jpg only came in 1 colour and was a great car , but new girlfriend and new car
1977_Ford_XC_Falcon_500_Sundowner_panel_van_(7708269152).jpg This isn't mine as mine was cream but closest I could get.

Then decide a ute was the go
iphone pics 223.jpg As you can see my ford obsession continued until a weak moment I bought this , only because it was my favourite Holden

iphone pics 222.jpgSS Torana hatch , the D3 hiding in the background, still my favourite Holden..

Had a D1, D2 , RRC which have moved on ,the D3 is still here for the boss , and I still have the Ford obsession with the 2 utes
iphone pics 106.JPG 1967 XR and a FG.

Had a few different work cars along the way , but these were my own. I grew up in the best time of muscle cars in Australia- well I reckon anyway..

Some nice cars there Bulletman, Gotta love the XB 2 doors, none of my mates would ever ride in the back of mine as it was too claustrophobic.

Yeh , had a soft spot for the coupe , the club I am in the president has 2 XB's both done as the Mad Max Interceptors , and every time I see the black 1 I wish I had of done mine. iphone pics 081.jpgiphone pics 082.jpg

In the 80's most of those cars were quite common so they weren't worth anywhere near what they fetch today.. I still don't want to add up how much I did spend on cars in those days , but I was making good money so it was there to spend.... well that's my excuse..

A mate of mine has two, both built same month.

One is fully restored back to original, the other half done, getting there eventually.

He is a mechanic, the restorations have been done impeccably.

    My bikes first.

    SL125.jpg
At 19 I bought this Honda 125SL trail bike - had a bike rack on the back of my car and learned basic offroad riding.

    Cooper-250-.jpg
At 21 I traded the the Honda for this Cooper 250 Motor Crosser - used to ride it around Cairns - registration not required - very powerful and difficult to start and ride.

    DT 400E.jpg
At 22 I moved and needed a registerable bike so bought a new Yamaha DT400E ($1750 on road). These bikes had a fault in that they leaned out at about 65mph and seized - happened to me at night on the Geelong Freeway - the lights do not work off the battery so when the engine seized the lights went out. Left the bike under an overpass and collected it the next day - the skid was 300m long. Fixed under warranty. A nice riding bike.

    Kawaski Trial Bike.jpg
Moving from Melbourne, the Yamaha was sold as it was going to be laid up for a few years. Aged 26 when I was based in Nowra I bought this Kawasaki 250 Trials bike to go bush bashing in the local area. I moved from Nowra and went to sea so the bike went to my Mums where my 15yo brother also lived - with me away he got it and went riding in the sand hills behind 9 mile beach in Belmont NSW. When I got back it was a wreck and just stored away and given away in the 90s.

    Honda-CBX550F-1.jpg
When 31 now living on the NSW Central Coast but working in the CBD of Sydney - so I bike was the answer. So a near new Honda CBX 550F - a nice bike. However while it had the performance it just could not handle the daily 200km commute - maintenance was horrendous - chains, sprokets, dropped valve. So after a year I sold it and bought

    bmw-k100.jpg
At 32 I bought an ex police BMW K100KT shaft drive. This bike could handle the 1000km a week commute plus it also begain my everyday rider in addition to the commute - used to strip driveshaft splines and in hot weather would suffer fuel vapour lock even though the fuel pump was in the fuel tank.

    250.jpg
Jump forward 20 years and now in Canberra and my organisation decides to move offices into the CBD with no office parking and parking costs were $12 a day. Bikes were free in the building - my brother had a 1978 Kawaski KL250 sitting behind his shed that he did not want so I grabbed it - fixed it as best I could so it ran and rode OK but never got around to actually using it for commuting - a combination of getting too old, it is too cold in winter in Canberra and getting too unsafe on the road. Still got it sitting under a tarp in my front courtyard.

So there are - my bikes - a mix of my own and google pics.

    My Cars - Part 1

    My Cars from 1973.

    Morris 1300.jpg
When 18 my Mum rang and said my Dad had bought me a car - yes a heap of crap Morris 1300 Auto.

    Galant.jpg
When I turned 20 I ordered a new Valiant Galant GL and got rid of the Morris

    Lancia (1).jpgLancia (2).jpg
In 1977 I bought this Lancia Beta Coupe - a great car and did more offroad than many 4wds do - Victorian High Country between Sale and Mt Hotham, Wilpena Pound and many other areas. I would buy this again.

    1979 - 1.JPGSeries 1 2.jpgSeries 1 1.jpg
While I had the Lancia I also bought a 86 Series 1 - wanted a Game but could not afford it so painted the series 1 in yellow. The tip over is on the Nerriga Road after heavy rain. Pulled it upright with a Kombie and drove it home - no damage.

    Renault 16ts.jpg
Went to the UK in the end of 82 and on the way from the airport to London CBD spotted this Renault 16TS on the side of the road for $500 - they are really a great car and took me all around the UK - are a rust bucket though. Ended up going to a wrecker for free a year later.

    E-Type 1.jpgE- Type.JPG
About 2 weeks later I bought this and brought it back home 12 months later. While in the UK drove over to Paris - it does not like the tight, clogged back streets of Paris - still got it but needs restoration.

Smile My Cars Part 2 - From 1985

    My Cars Part 2 - From 1985

I came back from the UK in early 1984 and put the E-Type on the road and pulled the yellow Series 1 out of storage - both were used as every drivers.
    1979 - 1.JPGE- Type.JPG
In 1985 I traded in the yellow Series 1 on a new Suzuki Sierra LWB

    Suzuki 2.jpgSuzuki Sierra.jpg
These are a great vehicle off road and the LWB rides a lot better than the SWB. I drowned it on Fraser Island but managed to sell it 4 years later with still no rust in the body.

    Series 3.jpg018.jpg
In 1988 I had just bought a house and was running out of cash so sold the Suzuki for not a lot less than I paid for it. Spotted this Series 3 on the side of the road being sold by the Lady Fairfax estate near Camden - was very run down but I was able to bring it back. Was my everyday driver until 1992. Left pic is what it looked like when I sold it and the right pic is it 20 years after I sold it - still running well.

    Subaru (1).jpgSubaru (2).jpg
The Series 3 was a bit heavy on fuel as an everyday driver so I bought this 1979 Subaru in 1992. A great vehicle and was my everyday driver for 14 years - ended up with nearly 500,000km on it.

    XJC 1.jpgXJC.jpg
At about 1992 I had a brain fade and bought this XJC V12 as a possible project - had a fire start in the boot and move to the cabin - electrics shot but mechanicals ok - reality soon settled in - just too expensive to restore. Sold the body and still got the engine under cover in my back yard.

    Escort 1.jpgEscort 3.jpgEscort 2.jpg
Another brain fade in the early 90s - bought this Escort 1600 from a friend to help him out - in 1999 had 2 weeks spare so fixed it up - came out quite well.

    MVIMG_20200517_162046.jpgMVIMG_20200517_162118.jpg
In late 1993 I ordered this brand newly released model - the 3.9 (later to be called the interim) Took delivery Jan 94.

    Disco Update 1.jpgDisco Update.jpg
In Feb 94 only 4 weeks after taking delivery of my new 'Interim' I spotted an odd Disco - turns out to be a pre release Update. On investigating I found out my new interim was only going to have a production run of about 5 months. So before the work got out I sold my old (new Disco) for what I paid and ordered an update model that was delivered in May 94 - was on Ok vehicle, poor reliability but I owned it for 12 years - pics are when I sold it in 2006.

    My Cars Part 3 - From 2004

    My Cars Part 3 - From 2004

By about 2004 my old Subaru everyday driver was getting a bit long in the tooth so time for a new daily - still had the Disco 1 Update on the road.

    Freelander (1).jpg

So in late 2004 I bought a top spec diesel 1998 Freelander to replace the Subaru. Unfortunately the timing belt had not been down and then I had a viscous coupling and IRD failure that took a long while to research and fix - so the Subaru was pressed back into service. Once fixed the Subaru was sold off and the Freelander was from then on totally reliable and a pleasure to drive. The Disco was not being used much so was sold off as well just leaving the Freelander.

    Series 1 88 (1).jpgPickup 001.jpg
In 2007, Cooma 2008 was about a year away so I bought this Series 1 88 to get ready - the Freelander towed it easily. However things got overtaken by another project and this Series 1 is still parked in my backyard.

Ex Mil - Note Lights and Brackets on top of Wings.jpg95_1.jpg
Well a little after, in another brain fade I accidently bought this 88 series 1 sight unseen on ebay. It is an ex mil series 1 - now with the exception of some trials vehicles we did not have these in our forces. I believe is was a support vehicle used by British forces at Maralinga. Dont but things sight unseen - its dash board and half of its firewall was made out of plywood and had a Holden. I was very disappointed and sold it on within a week to a guy in Queanbeyan. I should have held onto this as it is an exceptionally rare vehicle in Aust with Aust history.

    101 -1 (1).jpg001.jpg
In early 2008 I bought the 101 on ebay - mechanically OK but took 18 months to get on the road - still got it.

    SW.jpg
At the end of 2008 I spotted this on ebay and managed to win it. What a find, a series 1 88 Short Wheel Base Station wagon. I have only found one other in Australia in 12 years. It would seem there are more Tickfords and more 86s and more 107s than 88s. This is for restoration rather than a tidy up.

    RRS (1).jpgRRS (2).jpg
In late 2010 having now retired and liking the RRS I bought this 2.7 TDV6. Still got it and has to be the most reliable car I have owned. I sold the Freelander the following year (the timing belt needed doing) for a good price.

    Haflinger (1).jpgHaflinger (2).jpg
I have always wanted a Haflinger and in 2012 a good one came along which I managed to buy. I still own this and it is on the road - is fun to drive as long as you dont need to go up a hill on the highway.

So that are all the vehicles I have had and still have.

Cuurently the RRS is my everyday driver.
The 101 runs but I am doing some work on it at the moment.
The Haflinger is registered and runs on historic plates
The basic 88 series one is basically complete and I might just get it running with no restoration.
The Etype was planned for restoration now but the Covid19 hit on my superannuation has put that on hold for the moment.
The Series 1 SW is my project after I turn 70
