    I have OME which gave a 50mm lift. Spring rate I chose was stiff (HD) and it carry's the weight well off road, 130Ltr fuel and loaded cargo area.
    Being a stiffer set up it dose lift a wheel easier, which is not the best thing.

    Next time round I would but air bags in the rear keep the OME but a medium spring rate and the polyair bags would make up for when under full load.

    Mines a D1 but I put OMEs on, probably not the best shock in the world but doubt that Billies and Konis are twice as good as thier price would leave you to expect

    Performance for price = excellent value in my books

    They don't seem to handle the rough and corrigated roads when the Disco is loaded and with the camper on, Heasmans couldn't explain it too me either, at first they thought it was caused by stone damage but when they inspected them they seemed to be at a lose as to why they keep failing.

    What's it like on dirt without a heavy load?

    Are there signs of premature failure - oil leaks? What's it like around town?

    Regards

    $144 for OME
    $190 for Bilsteins.

    $46 difference per shock.

    With your bilsteins failing is your disco air bag or coil spring. Big differance on valving required.

    When I priced mine

    OME = $120

    Bilstien = $210

    Koni = $234

    so not quite double but you get my drift, plus one good gibber strike on a monotube and its all over rover and D1 rears are rather exposed in that regard

    But then not everything is for everyone, thats why there is some many brands out there

    I've used Bilstein and OME in my Defender wagon in expedition kit (3050kg). I rate the Bilsteins as good, and the OME as woeful. The original shocks (whatever they were) outlasted OME by 6 times. The Bilsteins are still going strong. I had a main shaft snap on the OME that left one shock knocking around like a c**k in a bucket! Replaced under warranty and the replacement has been just as bad. I thought incident, coincidence, I'm not going to let it become a pattern!

    OME do look good though, especially on Hiluxes!
