Ah! yeah, the bottoming will definately stuff them. Thats something they checked with me when I had the 6100's done, that the bumpstops were extended.

As you valve them softer it will reduce the traction provided, particularly on rough and especially on corrugated roads. Body movement will also be a lot more pronounced with a load in the back. I ended up valving a lot stiffer than standard, but I don't mind a firm ride in return for control.

you have to allow for at least 25mm bump stop compression I've found, otherwise a damper will go metal to metal. The results from that happening aren't good........

    when I was racing,,
    destroying billys was easy,,
    1 no bump stops
    2 no limit straps

seems they still have the problem.

Bilsteins are the best option for most Land Rover replacement shocks .
Any shock will fail with hard off road driving and overloading .
An incorrect suspension set up will destroy any shock - no matter what the brand or warranty .
I would recommend Bilstein Shock Absorbers for most applications including a new suspenson upgrade for a Discovery Series 2 .
Bilsteins have a long term good reputation in this minefield of aftermarket choices in regards to suspension upgrades .
Most guy's that fit Bilsteins are happy with the ride and longevity of the product .

Well... I'm committed now.. New Bilsteins in the front plus steering damper.

Will look at Bilsteins in the rear in a few weeks.

Much easier job than I expected - only took me about an hour a side.. ( I know an expert would be much faster ... but I'm happpy)

Just a hint on the rears ...use the original washers in preference to the washers that come with the Bilsteins
