Sounds like it's sorted, until the Discov. breaks down & she wants to nick the Series, & then you'll have a problem.
But let's worry about that if & when.![]()

I'm a landyholic.
So far I've survived purchasing 2 landies.
I've a feeling, though, that a third one might see me as fertiliser !!!
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

Sounds like the compramise may work, Darn. But just in case she kills you, just get her to pump the tyres up and push them in the lake whilst a South Wester is blowing and I'll pick them up as they float past.
(or I could come over on weekend, pretend that it is mine, say thats that you are keeping it for me so my missus will not find out, then when I get one............. Give me a buzz 0437 448 269 I would like a squizz if I,m not working!)

o.k guys here's the low down on the new (old) landie
- series III
- Hardtop legally seats three on bench but has troop carrier set up in the back with seatbelts (cannot find engineers plate or certificate though)
- 1981 model
- 2.25 diesel (isn't smokie just stail fuel)
- bahama gold in colour white roof (not for long)
- old style roo mincer type steel bull bar
- Dents and scratches all over (just war wounds)
- Bloody mack truckin Lucas electrics (damn you lucas) hense speedo doesn't work
- rust holes around vents rest of bulkhead very good (simple welding job when roof doors and windscreen and vents are off)
- hole in exhaust (minor just needs exhaust bandage)
- front tyres pair, back tyres pair spare tyre mud terrain
- brakes are a bit ow's ya father but they'll be an easy fix hopfully
Can anyone tell me more if given the chassis number?
Sounds like it could be OK. Since the rear seats were an option, do they need an engineer's certificate in 1981? When were they installed? for that matter, do you know any of the vehicle's history.
I doubt if the speedo not working has anything to do with the "Prince of Darkness", it will almost certainly be either the cable or the nut on the end of the transfer case output shaft (that holds the output flange on) is loose.
Assuming the date is correct and is the original engine, that should be a five bearing engine, supposed to be a bit better than the older three bearing.
Sounds as if you may have got a bit of a bargain, depending what else you find wrong with it!

Thanx JD
And thankyou all for the assistance. I just got a link from an old thread and looked up the vin number. Have to wait till next Friday to pick it up, due to missus and her horse crap taking us away for a couple of days. I post a few pickies when it arrives, the disco wont be the only Landie on the street anymore . Now I just need to think of an name "The Yellow Peril" seems appropriate due to the diarrohea like colour
I am open to suggestions
All I know is last owner traded it for a Pajero (spanish for his act, when even suggesting the thought) because him and his girlfriend didn't want to drive it up to Queensland to live.Originally Posted by JDNSW
His loss My gain (in theory anyway) Dealer prefers to scrap all older cars instead of fixing problems. So I know what future it could of had. Call it either an act of stupidity or couragously saving a piece of Land Rover history (so it can be modified slightly)
