    Burgulars are Not Real Bright

On Friday night I had a burglar in my house.

    Scene:
It is 1130 at night, (not 3am) lights on upstairs, lights on downstairs, two cars in the drive, sensor lights at the front, dark at the side and at the back. Me and my RRS not at home but my 30yo 6'3" housemate is in the study downstairs gaming away as he always does - the study is right next to the back door. When gaming he looks out the window and has the door pushed to the almost closed position to minimise noise in the house when he is abusing his online team to get going when they are trying to kill zombies.

Burglar tries to get in my garages, one locked, one unlocked but covered by sensor lights - spotted by an unknown neighbour who calls the police but does nothing else. No doubt alerted by break ins the night before.

Burglar opens front screen door and wedges it open and opens the the front door of the house to ensure and easy get away with his bootie.

He then goes around the dark side of the house to the back and comes in the back door into the laundry - there is a door to them get into the lower hall noting that all lights are on down stairs - he then goes to the first room which is the study, pushes the door open and sees my 6'3" 95kg housemate sitting there but with his headset on does not know the burgular is only 3' behind him - my guess the burglar then panics (probably when housemate kills a zombie in his game and yells in excitement) and runs up the stairs and out the front door. My housemate with his headset on hears the noise but thinks it is me and does nothing.

He shortly after finishes and gets up and notices his door and the hall door open and then the back door and front door open - then my phone starts going off with weird messages that I promptly ignore but gets my attention when he says he has police in my house with guns drawn.

When he noticed the doors open he went up stairs and got the smallest paring knife he could find (I later told him he really needed to get one of the 12" knives) and then went outside to find the police had just arrived from the first call and were suspicious of house mate with his little knife - anyway satisfied, the cops pulled their guns and searched through my house (leaving dirty boot marks on my carpet) and cleared the house then took off.

Just after I got back home to an agitated housemate who then got his little knife and searched under the house.

The burglar was really not too bright - 11.30 on a Friday night - front sensor lights, many people are still up and perp spotted by a neighbour, lights on in the house and cars in the drive indicates people home and up. When you walk up the back steps you can see straight into the study and would see big Housemate sitting in chair.

Apparently cops were good but did not take any forensics - for sure nothing got nicked from my house even though there were two lap tops lying around, but this was the second night in a row that the area got hit - two houses the night before 50m up the road where a fair bit of valuable stuff was taken.

The front sensor lights obviously did their job in allowing others to see the offenders and forcing them into darker areas around the house - one sensor light was out as the possums keep on sitting on the solar panel knocking it down so the battery runs out quick. So I am going to get some more sensor lights to light up the darker areas.

If the burglar hit the house at say 3 in the morning, the lights would have been off, everyone would have been asleep and they would have been able to go through non bed room areas in relative freedom.

Glad it All went well Gary. I have a few things to greet burglars. One of which is 45kg of grumpy male German Shepherd. But then again burglars tend to know which houses have dogs and which don't so tens to avoid those which do.

It was a good thing your housemate wasn't hit over the back of the head. Then 6'3 just means it's long way to the floor. Some house breakers don't play by the rules of a generation before...hyped up on meth etc.

    Cheers

A melon head bull terrier or two are good for burglary prevention. A burglar showing up at Casualty with a leg chewed half off is a dead give away. A very quiet dog they just growl and bite strangers. Bite like a hydraulic press.

Reminds me of a case years ago in Melbourne, where an apprehended burglar was found to have a detailed map of the area, with a number of houses marked with a red cross. Asked if those were the houses he intended to rob, the response was "Oh no! Those are the ones with dogs."

He'd obviously done it before. X2 on the bull terrier , they make good mates as well.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

Burgulars often break into houses when people are home so they can steal car keys and then the car, as they are hard to steal with immobilisers fitted these days.

Yes the first thing that I checked was that the keys were all where they were supposed to be - RRS and keys were with me.

I had an attempted break in about 15 years ago where the local druggie was waiting for the methadone clinic to open and did a few houses - my then Cocker Spaniel kept him out the house but not the garage. He was doing my garage while the cops were investigating the first house robbed and when he did the next house he got sprung and caught by the cops

I got the jelly beans that had been knocked off from my Disco in the garage back from the cops.

In this latest incident there looks as if 5 houses were done over two nights but the police are not doing any forensics at all and no follow up.

I am surprised Ron hasn't dropped in with all these Burgulars around.

A few years ago, they did over my brothers place in the middle of the day,the wife had gone to the shops for half an hour.

Bashed the front door in,the policeman from next door wasn't at work that day,and saw a beat up Dunny Dore in the driveway.

He thought it was one of my brothers sons mates dropping in

    Thought nothing of it.

The thieves got all her jewellery, handed down through generations.

They got lucky that day, although the cops got some prints and they knew who they were.Career criminals.
