As I understand it, it logs the MAC address, and location, of anyone you have been in close contact with for (I think) 15 minutes or longer.
It holds that info for 21 days (incubation period plus a few days).
If you or someone you have been in contact with, is diagnosed with Covid, you will receive a message to present yourself for testing.

If there is no call from the command centre, your outdated data is deleted.
Don't know what everyone is worried about. Companies and governments have much more, and way more private, data on you without needing this app.

    That sounds right.
There is an option saying what to do if I get that call, including a choice of Yes or No to uploading the data.
What I was looking for was a way to see what it is actually recording.

I would think that there would be a string containing DTG for contact start/end, MAC address of the other party/parties, and a grid reference for where the contact occurred. No other data needed. Anything more would be superfluous to the requirements, and simply waste storage space.
Just a number of characters and digits, really.

"Victoria Health has provided figures that show officials accessed the data collected by 307 people who have the COVIDSafe app and tested positive to coronavirus. However that data did not provide any additional information to what the contact tracers had already obtained through lengthy interviews."
