Real bushfire death toll was 445

Royal commission evidence shows the bushfires killed more than 4 times as many people as Covid-19 has so far.
Smoke inhallation triggers immune responses. This is an example of why vehicle emissions are also more deadly than many realise

I sometimes/nearly always think that the Guardian journalists are super dumb, live in parallel universe , or both.

While there may have been 3000 plus hospital admissions, the affects of smoke inhalation are transitory.

How else does one explain the extensive research into cigarette smoking that indicates that the longer you give up smoking the smaller the effect on longevity?

If not then all those anti smoking ads on TV have been a great waste of money.

No wonder the Guardian is going broke and has to plead for money at every opportunity.

You didn't read the story? These are medical experts giving evidence to the bushfire royal commission.

I read the story and were the experts asked about long term effects or only immediate effects?

A journalist is supposed to delve into statistics not just accept face value, but most of them whoever they work for are the same.

It seems to me that most now get their stories from twitter.

The evidence to the royal commission is the source.
What is your actual complaint? Do you dispute how many people are dead?
Also, The Guardian isn't going broke, it is independent, expanding and self-supporting (unlike the Murdoch media, which is losing readers and going broke).

imho, unless directly related to the effects of fire, ie, burns or heat, its not a bushfire death

So are you saying that if people die because of smoke from bushfires that doesn't count? Really?

So I guess you are not counting the two fire fighters who died when their truck was overturned by the wind.
