This problem of coastal erosion affects towns and beaches all over the world and the simple answer is to stop development along the immediate coastal strip and pull back as they are planning on doing in Fremantle.

And the irony is that less than a km away to the north on the same flat land and behind the Fremantle Surf Club, the 5th? block of high rise units is almost completed and ready for occupation -admittedly further away from the beach but no higher than the at risk SALT restaurant, but look what has happened in parts of the east coast over the last few years. This development was started well over 10 years ago, was halted during the last financial crisis, and anyone with half a brain could see that rising sea levels were going to be an issue.
Many say that the extensions to Fremantle Harbour with walls extending much further north and west into the ocean was the catalyst for significant natural changes to the Port Beach area to the north.
