    13 yrs how things change

Just realised I have been a member for 13 yrs. When i first joined Defender / Disco 300 tdi forums ruled the waves, . D2 posts were a rarity. ( the evil electronics) which seemed to have been covered now. Over the years the tide has turned , D2 and now D3 and 4 seem to be the normal. The poor old Defender/Disco 300 tdi posts are is nearly a rarity. We have obviously covered all the bases on 300 tdi Defenders / Discos with the occasional TD5 S thrown in. . Thoughts ???? Baz

We have gone from being scared of the electronics to being justified for being fearful.

Can't subscribe to that theory, Ian. I think you've got your wires crossed.

It applies to me. The downhill slide started when the crank handle was replaced with the electrickery starting gizmo.

Crank handles? I was always partial to the blowtorch on the glow head...

Anyway, @bazzle218 I noticed the same kind of decline in the P38 forums. When I bought one and came aboard there was only just some chatter going on but it seems to have died out largely. Regarding having covered everything: I think that is likely true. The medium of a forum however has both a lot of pro's and some con's, allow me to elaborate:

(full disclosure: I run a fairly large forum myself)

Forums are a great way to get a braintrust to think about a problem or share experiences, but like any other form of conversation it is always in context of the OP's question or problem. It also often happens that the answer to a problem is not exactly related to the topic itself and thus when years later this wealth of information is used by new members or internet searchers it is difficult to find those answers.

For example, a recent post in technical chatter reads something like "V8 sounds like rattlegun" If I search for "P38 petrol ticking noise" I would not find it, even maybe, though it is the same engine. Sure, V8 is a better search term but just for this example's sake. I new topic is then made and the whole story begins anew so no worries I guess some typing is still left to be done!

So, in short, has it all been said? probably, will we need to repeat things in the future? likely

    Cheers,
    -P
