New PC issues - what haven't I done right ?

Mrs Scouse has just bought a new notebook PC for her studies which means that I can now access the internet &, more importantly, AULRO.I'm having a couple of problems which are probably to do with settings somewhere though.Normally, pressing ENTER drops to the next line, which it does as I'm typing. However, when I preview or submit the text, it all goes onto one line.I also have a problem with Smilies - if I click on the ones at the side of the text entry screen, I get nothing appearing within the text like I normally do with my work PC.I'm sure I've done something wrong somewhere but I'm completely lost as to what it might be. Any smart forumites with ideas ?
    Maybe this
is all in my imagination & it all looks fine to everyone else.....After previewing, I get these
    ,/p> 's appearing !!!

I know that I have NFI but I'm not sure what the PC has. I assume NIS is Norton, which we're using because it came with 60 days free access. After the 60 days, we'll be using Trend. We'll see if that makes a difference. I'd better be careful what I say now as I can't use smilies !!!

Yes, but I should be outside. The poor Rangie is up on stands & I'm supposed to be working on the brakes. I come inside for a cuppa & get stuck on here.........Insert smilie.
