    Hospital - Beards Warning !

Shrt story, spent a few nights of enforced snoozing in out local (public) hospital... and when I was awake and thinking straight... noticed my beard / moustache was mis ing, replaced by a scratchy 3mm stubble. Bits of the story was 'sudden emergency, - needed to get breathing tube down quickly and TAPED in position...'
So, if you go in for even a minor procedure, make sure they understand your beard is.... sacred.

A week later, and still not over it !

Anyone else had a similar over-reaction or unforseen shaving or balding ?

Intubation sounds pretty serious! I hope you’re OK.

Only of the groin when I went in for a cardiac angiogram a week ago.

Yes. I spent 5 days in icu and some of the nurses apologised that i had my beard and moustache shaven off. They told me that one particular nurse had a dislike for beards and shaved it off while i was asleep.

My kids are fully grown but they had never seen me clean shaven.

For me, it was a small price to pay for keeping me alive while my body repaired itself.

Everytime I have to recert my BA search and rescue with CFA. Clean shaven.

Worse than that was a sleep study, nice young nurse wiring me up. Had to wear some clothes to bed so had some old sleep shorts, not noticing the hole in the crotch. Sat in a chair whilst she passed the wires down the shorts etc and taped to head so shaved patches and eyeliner pencil used to mark me up. As she left she'd been crouched in front of me wiring up the electrodes to the box. I then realised the knacker bag poking out the hole. So classy.

Last time I was admitted to hospital after a motorbike accident I had the very nice registrar of ER (looked like she was dressed up to go out for a night out somewhere) poke her finger up my bum, apparently that's how you check for spinal tone to ensure no damage. Saw her swing by me later at the MRI and asked how I was. I responded, I'm not so easy this time, dinner first please.
Didn't tell my wife I'd been run over by a truck until I had to, it was settlement day for our house. Didn't want her off her game. Then when discharged I looked like the hulk. The MICA paramedic had cut my work trousers right up the front on one leg and cut the other off mid thigh.

Every time I go to hospital something memorable.

Funny enough, when I had my heart surgery they tools me to shave everywhere except my beard. I thought it was a bit funny but i I didn’t question it. My beard Is trimmed to a #2 or 3 tho. Private hospital

Going in to have a stent next week. There was too much calcification to stent me when I had the angio. I saw the cardiologist yesterday, they’ll try a new technique to shatter the calcium with ultrasonics before stenting. I might need two stents formed into a Y.

    Sure beats having a bypass.

I had a hernia repaired in 2015 and got a full Brazilian courtesy of the hospital. Not a juicy young nurse either but a big rough male nurse in his forties.

Plastics warehouse out at Acacia Ridge has staff rules, no facial hair, no tatts, no hardware, no abnormal hairstyles (purple Mohawks etc.).

When I got my CPAP machine I had to choose. If I went for a full face mask the beard had to go. So I chose a nostril mask instead and kept the beard. Just had to train myself to keep my mouth closed and breathe through my nose or it doesn't work.

I can't get nasal prongs to work - I'd need to tape my mouth shut. I don't have a beard but I still can't get the mask to seal and I hate air blowing up into my eyes.
