I've got NRMA premium cover also. Definately worth the money. Joined on the friday night, broke down Saturday night. :rolleyes: Anyway, they waived the 48hr waiting period, sent the NRMA man who then sent the tow truck to take me back home. I figure that if I break down a long way from anywhere, then I'd like them to come and h.e.l.p.

ok, im going up newcastle its one in the morning i break down who do i call, its a bit worse case senario but if there is some one to call ie break down service may be i can get away with a bit longer not needing break down cover, i have three cars so will add up a lot.
looking at nrma web site not covered for accident fire etc who rescues you then or is it an insurance problem, the cover looks to be about $150 for first class then getting cheaper, it also appears joining on the spot paying some thing extra (amonut not stated) will get a man in the over alls out to help.
i still dont know what to do and im tight so would like to risk it but im also not a gambler.

I gave up membership of the RACQ when they tied it to a car - as I did not own a car at the time it wasn't worth keeping up, and when I got another car I reasoned that I could probably fix it as well as they could anyway (driving a Citroen at that stage). Never had a problem on the road in nearly twenty years. Then I married and joined the RACV for my wife's benefit. Despite having lost her six years ago, I still have NRMA cover. Only times I have called them have been twice for a flat battery away from home in seventeen years. Doubtful if it is worthwhile, but I still keep it.

In my 6 months of Landy ownership I've had my vehicle break-down and towed 3 times by NRMA...
... first and second was when fuel lift pump died
... third time was when fuel pump fittings had come loose and left a snail-trail of diesel along forest road in peakhurst
... first and second time, I had broken down on stoney-creek road in kingsgrove... on directly opposite sides of the road going different directions.
... third time I broke down, across the road from peakhurst-inn on forest road... I was towed by the same tow-truck driver I had from the second time I broke down.
Unlucky yes, but lucky I was not out on a beach or the back-asss-end of nowhere.
... all 3 times were in south-west sydney area and all times under the 20k limit to get myself towed to the mechanic
NRMA?... It's insurance.

Sometimes you don't.
In my case, sometimes more times than ever.
Now that I own a Landy (...which for all it's problems I absolutely love), yessss.... I will upgrade the NRMA membership to premium... no questions about it!!!!!!!

Also, met a couple over the w/e who recently travelled around oz for 8-9 months. They have top nrma cover and have used it "remote" a few times... especially for accomodation while their vehicle was being repaired.
Made sense for them also because their roof-top tent was kinda stuck to the roof.

I wont let the (truckheads) near my vehicles, call them out, wait an hour or two then get a bloke tell you what you told the operator two hours ago (the car cant be fixed and needs a tow). I think I'd just prefer to call a towie direct and pay him cash. It's worked before for me I go towed 300km's for $150.00 tell me the NRMA would do that
P.S That wasn't a Landie twas a very popular jap car of the small 2wd type
