So all you have to do on your next trip to Cairns is disconnect something they cant find and get a tow, you'll save a fortune in diesel.:D
I have RACQ gold or something, about $140 a year, covers any vehicle I'm driving, including motorcycles for towing, accomodation etc, until I can work out how to carry a spare on the Guzzi, I'll stick with it.

Rarely Used, however like anything it is insurance. It has caused me a headache or two. Mainly from having a beer or two between the now ridiculous wait.

RAA here in South Australia, insurance against the person, not the vehicle. So it transfers to any vehicle you are driving at the time.

Some are against the vehicle. I think NRMA used to be but not sure now though.

Actually on one trip I was on, I had to haul an RAA truck out of a situation. He went to rescue a stranded vehicle on a Salt Pan and ended up sinking himself.

I was thinking of sending a bill through to RAA, however, I settled for a couple of beers, and a pub meal.

Matter of Fact, Per Capita, South Australia has the highest membership of an Automobile Vehicle support subscription.

Primarily because we have relaxed vehicle rego, and the oldest cars on the road.

Totally agree dobbo.. I learnt that after my first 2 times calling them out. 2nd time out the mechanic was pretty good, but when he went to check up on his computer for specs about the defender - nuthin!

Also agree that NRMA wouldn't do free tows over 100k's when stuck out somewhere remote... but you can get a tow back to somewhere at least for free, plus rental car and accomodation. Just enough to get yourself out of the sh#t...

I still say it's ok considering I might have my family with me. If it turns out that they are not worth the money and I end up having to pay myself out of whatever situation then so be it... I'll work out then if it was a mistake having the membership.

For now it's at least piece of mind.

I've been luckily enough not to be stranded with the wife and kids in tow for that reason alone I'm considering membership but considering the costs
