When the guy pulled in front and started brake checking me and coming to a stop - I should have just also stopped (not pulled out) and switched on the hazards and waited. Turned up the radio and maybe called the cops on their 13*** number and then waited - I am sure their patience would have run out in a minute or so. On that piece of road it would have been safe and would not have given the bogans any satisfaction in getting a greater response from me. Of course if they got out it might have got interesting.

I also thought about whether I should have turned around and then followed them for a while but then dismissed that as a silly idea.

I was a little disappointed in the cops - other than the others rego number did not record anything - not my details and anything else. Also surprised there is no road rage offence in the ACT.

I think you are right, the correct response is not always easy in the heat of the moment.

I've said this a hundred times ... and I'll say it again. If you think the police will be there when you need them, your living in a dreamworld. I've seen them stop over the hill away from where the "action" is and hide (even if they do by some miracle arrive). You see their first priority is to make sure there own members are not hurt. There is nothing easier than breaking a window with a brick. don't throw it, swing it like a hammer in your hand. I'm not stupid, I'll wait until the nutters are approaching my car. If they have weapons or there is a lot of them. I'm running THEM down, not their vehicle. I rather run over crazed ice junkees that play chicken with there most likely stolen vehicle where my family could get hurt. Me and my family come before all nutters that will hurt them. I'm betting most of these types of people are usually on some sort of drugs. Your not going to talk your way out of anything. I'm pretty sure escalation is the only thing that will happen.

If its just one un-armed person, I'd probably do as you suggest (as the worst case scenario is you can still get out of the car if required).

At least you know what is happening in these scenarios ... I've come across things like running cars ... in drive with the handbrake on blocking the fire trail I use to go to work. My eyes went straight to my mirrors and I instantly slammed the old rangie into low range diff lock... This is VERY weird, is there about to be a car block me in ? I gave it 30seconds thinking I would have to ram my way out of whatever was about to happen ... and nothing happened..... I had a good look around and couldn't see where anyone could be hiding (that I couldn't get back into the car quicker than they could get to me) .... So I got out and checked the car. Smashed ignition, no-one around. Probably a drug deal up in the bush where they have left there stolen car behind ? I put some gloves on and moved the car out of the way (trying not to put my finger prints all over it) and switched it off. I rang the police and described where it was then took the owner out to it later in the day.

My safety and my families come first. I would not have hesitated even for a fraction of a second to try and ram my way out of this. Once again, ringing the police would have been a waste of time (unless you think they can help you 2 hours after the **** has hit the fan).

About 6months before this happened a similar thing happened an unmarked police car in town. I dunno what they were doing driving down fire trails in a police car. But they let themselves get blocked in and simply got out of the car with weapons drawn and arrested them

I can only give my experience from working with SAPOL.

sometimes they show up in under 5min, other times over an hour. The severity of the problem I found is not a factor. I've attended a fatality on the freeway, requested SAPOL and they have taken over an hour to arrive with a single motorbike officer. Other times a minor traffic accident, SAPOL is there before us.

5 minutes is "forever" if the merde hits the fan . I've been attacked by a gang of 13 in the local supermarket carpark that is view-able from the local police stations entire east wall windows (a 30second sprint away). Like every other time, if you think the police will rescue you, you're in for a world of hurt. Once the gang had run away.... a lot of people in the supermarket had rang the police. So I waited 20minutes for them. Walked about to the police station (90seconds walk) and told them to bloody forget about it ( forget about what ? ) and went home.

The only way the police could ever possibly help if the merde hits the fan is if they are already onsite. In which case, why in the hell am I involved in this at all ? ....

There is an old saying told to me by an ex-police officer - "When seconds count, the Police are only minutes away". For many reasons, the response time may be out of their hands. For a while, on some weeknights in Perth, only one police car was allocated to cover the entire Northern suburbs and one for the Southern suburbs, due to budget cuts. It didn't last long due to many quarters questioning the Police higher-ups decision.
At other times, you really have to wonder though!

That's true yet I am in no delusions If I Blink an intention to assault or commit a crime the police would be an immediate swarm Not bothered by that as highly unlikely I would every give them an reason

I always like the joke about the guy wanting the police urgently and being told it will take some time by OOO. He responds not to bother as the guy with guns can take care of "them"- It wasn't me

That is only if the flat side of the brick hits the window, if a corner does it will disintegrate into a million pieces

I always thought I'd just drive to the nearest police station if this sort of thing happened to me, but watch out you want to go to a major one, some of the little ones are only manned certain hours.

A bit hard when the car is stopped on the road 5 feet in front of you, there is a car behind you, there is oncoming traffic and the other car can out drag you from a standing start. My RRS is 0-100kph in 12 secs, the Holden Crewman Sv6 comes in around 9 secs.

About 20 years ago in Brisbane there was a road rage incident (before they were trendy) where the victim then followed the car until it stopped. Then confronted the person who pulled a gun and shot and killed the victim

Had a Holden one tonner and if someone played games would hold my line on basis I would do the damage to them and could drive away. Experience showed this to be a correct assumption.

Must be something in their character as I found that Alfa’s cannot resist the advances of a one tonner. The result of the union is a sort of exploded diagram of an Alfa. Once one tonner has had its way it drives off

Once saw a Land Rover series LWB smoke its tyres in acceleration as it sped forward into the right hand side of a car. Each morning the driver dropped their kids and then drove forward 20 meters to the zebra crossing. Waited as they crossed the zebra. This morning a car overtook at the zebra where the Land Rover was stopped. Just missed kids. Hence rapid acceleration and somewhat bent car. Backed out of accident and drove off. Never saw the Land Rover again. Police were never able to solve this one
