Then it turns into a long skinny carpark! Can't say I miss getting on the freeway every morning to go to work.
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.

Shocking lousy design...try staying in the left hand lane and you would end up anywhere but where you want to go. No standard design for exits as you could be faced with traffic lights, give way or stop sign, or if you're really lucky when turning left, a "protected extra lane".
I presume all the different designs are because the goons at the Main Roads department have "graded" them according to how many vehicles they've guessed will use them.
And some of the entrances are so bad it's no wonder there are constant crashes. Don't even speak about the so called merging lane as you try to join the traffic... or the behaviour of those on it determined to stop you if they can.
Luckily I never had to use it during peak periods as it's bad enough during off peak.

    Perth's Freeway

Just do what we do in Melbourne when merging - if a gap is more than an inch longer than your vehicle, just veer across into the new lane you wish to occupy. Indicators are optional.

When someone honks their horn or yells at you, act like it was their fault... Perth's Freeway

This is the way I deal with it in Perth. Indicator on for the mandatory 5 flashes and/or 100M and I'm moving. I'll pretend not to see you and just keep coming over.

I've found in Melb as soon as I put the indicator on people naturally understand what I'm going to do and I don't even have to pretend they aren't there. The flashing orange light just magically makes a gap happen. I could get used to that.
