You want my opinion ? Well stiff... you'll get in anyway

The ARB bar looks MUCH better than the ECB bar.
The ARB bar, being steel, can be repaired following a light impact. This is much harder with an alloy bar.
The ARB bar has provision for a winch (not sure on the ECB bar).
Despite being alloy, the ECB bars aren't as light as you might think.

Having said that, if you have any specifric questions, ECB are just down the road from me and if there's something that needs looking at (i.e. you can't settle the question by phone) just let me know and I can go check it out for you.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

thanks for your help every one

i thought the alloy bar would be better with the coil suspension

i saw a UK thread last night that had a winch kit that mounts direclty to the chassis and comes thru a cut out on the original bar .i could use
this with a normal bull bar that doesnt take a winch
    regards

You want to look at actual mass - there is no guarantee that an alloy bullbar (or anything) will be lighter than the same thing in steel. The mass depends as much on the design as it does on the material, and while it will be perhaps easier to design a bullbar to be lighter in alloy, this doesn't mean that is what actually happened, particularly since the man who designed the steel one is probably more conscious of the need to avoid excess weight.
