At my age I try to imagine sometimes what it would/will be like but it is difficult as she has looked after me all these years with my illnesses & good temper. [bighmmm] Certainly is difficult, but I guess I'll find out one day, or she will if I pre-decease her.

Thank you for your response. I actually had little time for thinking about it . A friend from town came out to cut firewood the following day, bringing two of his kids, his father in law, his design engineer, and his dog. Together with having three grandchildren here for the school holidays this meant I hardly thought of the date between getting ready for them and worrying about the son in Melbourne and his wife.Quote:

Can't do it. I have had the love of many dogs, and one good woman. I have loved and lost, and loved and won, but I know that my time has come, at least with the dogs. Life doesn't let go, and dogs show that. You lose so much. You also lose more than you can imagine with the 'good woman'.Quote:

I helped Mum ( mum bred OES dogs, dogs were her life, she wanted a dog. Just too old and lonely ) get a GAP rescue greyhound, a wonderful dog. Sadly mum was too old to deal with a dog like that. The program was wonderful, and their selection process was first class. The reason mum, at her age, got a dog was because the dog needed someone soon. Mum couldn't do it, as much as she want'd to, so they took Charlie back.
I appreciate what you say, mate, but I can't do it. The 'good woman' thing still resonates, and I'm now too old.

I don't have a 'wedding anniversary' , but Jan and I always considered the 11/11/1993 to be ours. She figured it out through some chemistry, and who was I to argue. The date stayed with us forever.Quote:

You believe that what you have is forever. I am in reasonably good health, I believed I would have a life going forward. I was 62 when my life changed unalterably. What do I do now? A dog? That's a terrible decision, at leat for me..
But, then, maybe I'll live to be 105, and I'll need TWO dogs.
Make sure you have someone to look after your dog, and just live your life... Jan would have told me this, I think.
