Heading up there soon. Have info on restrictions in place in aboriginal communities per qld gov't website. Penalties are too high to test enforcement-but one of the travellors (she) drinks strongbow cider-I have been told by a beaurocrat that the policies are to be taken literally and that if a drink is not mentioned by name it is prohibited-that means only beer and wine is allowed except at pubs/resorts etc. Have others thought the same on this?? ahhhhhhh life tests us.

As far as I'm aware, its beer, wine and spirits.Some article in 4x4 Australia had them tipping a bottle of Scotch into the Jardine a few months ago.Plan your journey to get rid of your grog before then.

We were up that neck of the woods a couple of years back. It was surprising to see the number of blokes wandering back out of the scrub with a carton on their shoulder in the few kays south of the Jardine.

Fairly common practice to set up a little cache with a GPS on your way north then retrieve same on your return ......

I must say that the information on restrictions in Cape York are p1ss poor. We ended up going up dry & buying as we went. When you're up at the tip, there's a bottle shop in Bamaga that has a limited selection of stock.

I live smack in the middle of an affected zone on the Cape. My little piece of paradise is actually commonwealth land and as such is not affected by the ban.
The way it is explained to us is that the ban is only applicable on the Aboriginl DOGIT(deed of grant in title) land or related declared zones. You can travel on the roads, and have alcohol in non DOGIT areas. I still have a quiet beer when I go camping. Don't get caught with any amounts of grog (any kind of grog) inside the declared areas unless you want to give your vehicle to Peter Beatie. The roads are sign posted, and dont try claiming you didnt see the sign.
