    I Got Scammed This Morning

    JUST A WORNING .
I got scammed this morning. I received an EMAIL to tell me I had a delivery coming in the next couple of days & to verify my delivery details , when I went to check the details they said there was $3.30 needed paying before delivery.

I had an shirt coming from the US so checked the delivery tracking which stated the item had been scanned in Sydney mail sorting facility & was now in transit, so thought the delivery could be in the next couple of days. At this point I made the payment of $3.30 but what this did was to register me to an online gaming site .

On reading the fine print the small amount of money gave me 4 days access after that they would withdraw $69 from my account through PayPal. I tried to cancel but they will not allow cancelation with in 48hrs of the 1st payment. So off to the bank straight away to cancel my Credit Card.

Then to Police station to report it, they gave me some good sites to report these things . I tried to report it on a Gov site that sends the info to the ACCC but all the options they gave had nothing to do with what had occurred & did not have anywhere to wright what happened.

When I spoke to the lady at the police she she had been told that many times a flier from the ACSC with some web sites which seam to work.
So as careful as I was to check I still got scammed.

Frustrating plus. My dad did a similar thing. I did mange to find an Australian connection and got them in a bother with some legal types happily.

Try objecting all the credit card charges at your bank. It was fraud before it started in my view and you might find they deal with it reasonably well. As much as I love our police their cyber and online crime capacity is a big fat Zero. It is possible for state police to refer it to the Federal police who do Have a little more resources in that area. You cannot ask the federal police to look at crimes under there watch with out a state police request.

I discovered a while ago that you can remove any auto-approved payees from your paypal account, go into your account settings and delete them. My problem was with a courier website when I shipped a package from the UK, I selected the courier with the best combination of price and service offered, after I received the package they started telling me I owed them money for extra charges, i.e. package weight 'not standard weight' when they had quoted based on the specific weight. Lengthy exchange of emails resulted in them telling me they were going to deduct the 'outstanding' amount from my Paypal account- they were very smug as they assumed I had no recourse against this BUT happily I discovered I could just delete them as an approved payee in Paypal. Never heard from the sods again.
Do this and they won't be able to charge you the $69.

Call the number it reports and disconnected. Scams plus more are getting easier as IP phones can originate from any where and appear to be here.

Thanks. This one happened to me a couple of time over the last 4 weeks.

As I was expecting a pair of Kevlar Gloves in the post I was still wary & did nothing about it & the second time ditto.

Never heard another thing. It looked quite convincing & if one was expecting a parcel then it could easily be done.

Thanks for that PP tip I may need to use it one day.

Hook line & sinker , Thats an old scam , not just a pure co-incident that you were actually expecting a delivery, as 90% of people would be at the moment.

Is "Settings" under a sub heading? Can't locate it.

    Chargeback

A few years back I ordered some goods from a business overseas, turned out to be run by an Australian guy.

After I ordered the goods he changed the price and charged more to my credit card. When I queried it he said that it was a good price and I should be happy. I pointed out that he couldn't unilaterally change the agreed price.

Didn't get anywhere with him so I contacted my credit card provider and they reversed all of his charges.

So keep in mind that credit card charges can always be reversed.
