One thing I've found is that the UV also kills the almost universal disposable W panel filters we all use these days in commercial FCU's.
They just disintegrate in about 6-8 months

I suspect the deep bag/pocket type filters used in larger air handlers will be ok

In my mind I was picturing Ally Mesh & Viscous type. It's early days yet boys.

Disposables may have to go Rick, in the New Normal.


Oh yes, the other thing some people complain about is the pong given off as Ozone.

Not everyone complains it seems, but a small price to pay for healthy air & in a large plant I doubt it would even be noticeable& in Dept store applications it would mix with Shop Stock Odours ie. Food, Perfumery etc.


I visited a friends residence some years ago, used the toilet & wondered what this strange pong was. Turns out he had a small UV setup in the dunny (????) He also had a ceiling exhaust fan so it was ventilated. No-one else seemed to notice or if they did didn't comment.

No, Trevor was long before the rush on toot Paper began. 'onest guv.

UV lights do work, but they don't negate the need for cleaning, as mould will still grow in any shady corners.

Legally we aren't allowed washables anymore, they can't be washed on-site, cleaning must be done using an appropriate pit to trap the runoff, etc. etc. to comply with the letter of the law.
The big manufacturers like Air-Pure will just have to use UV stabilised filter media.
I wouldn't mind betting the Viledon bulk roll media we used to use would be ok, but the cardboard framed disposables use a cellulose (paper) media like a car air cleaner.
I removed some 8 month old filters recently and there was nothing left!

Having said that we all see cassettes and high walls used commercially everywhere and guess how they are all cleaned?

So it is simply being able to design a correct layout to cover the surfaces.


A piece of cake for a good engineer with the right Specs. ( Or a bad one with bad specs?)

I used this stuff in blue colour rolls on offshore oil rigs for years. Did not attempt to wash it and no UV lights. Most of the filters were metal frame type, so it was an easy job to have spares prepared and a job that the assistant could not stuff up doing!
