I checked the weather records for Esperance for last Sunday & Monday and there was a top of 17.7 on Sunday and 24.5 on Monday and no rain on either day. Cape Arid is about 150kms east of Esperance, but the weather wouldn't be wildly different to that. Those temps, in the absence of rain, and even with an overnight low of 4, really aren't dangerous. And there was evidently water around to be drunk, so, no, he wasn't in mortal danger.
I did the same thing[biggrin]. 'Parks' say the month of July has 12°/17° temps and the weather can be 'Unpleasant' but it wasn't too bad, apparently. He also had 2.4 litres of water so, in the above temps, he shouldn't have had too much trouble in the 12 hour stroll, although that goes against the 8 litres of IV that the hospital supposedly administered. He must have scoffed his bottled water pretty quickly!Quote:

I have 5 nephews/nieces - so far 2 of them are uni drop outs, 1 finished uni.
I think it’s a character kind of thing - some people have grit and some don’t.

I have never driven on the mud flats so know very little about them except to avoid them. Would the tracks dry out over a couple of days to allow you to back track out on them?
A DEFINITE NO to that question, The secret IF and that is a bloody BIG IF you absolutely HAVE to cross a salt flat, mud flat or black soil plain is to NOT follow ANY track that has already broken through the crust.Quote:
