    Hi,
We had one across the Derwent in the early 70s.
Some one rammed and brought down the Tasman Bridge, only finished the the late 60s.
    Cheers

I can remember that "disaster". Caused no end of inconvenience for the people on the opposite side of the River for a long time.

It caused some inconvenience to those on the bridge, when the ship gave it a nudge, too.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

Of course it did Ian, but I thought that went without saying ie. I didn't wish to be melodramatic & overload the post with sketchy detail. Moi?

Supported, they can go miles if needs be & they have sufficient components.. The Highways Dept here used a number & one in parallel with a permanent bridge they were building over the River Torrens at Paradise/Dernancourt operated as a regular Bridge until the present one was completed & must have been there for a couple of years & we used it each day.

Quite a few were used around the Snowies as I recall.

    Fascinating things Baileys.
I remember this bridge was there not a ford as well, must have been mid sixties, went to school at Strathmont tech which seems to no longer exist

    Cheers Paul

Yes, originally it was the Darley Road Ford with a Stony bottom that the early market gardeners used., then a concrete road, then the Bailey as the Highways commenced bridge Building & eventually just the bridge.

There was another ford with big smooth River stones further down stream at Lochiel Park Ford which we used as it was closer to home.

Probably into the Sixties as you said.

Google Darley Road Ford for some images, there is even one with a Series Rover crossing. The horse one would probably go back to very early days as there is no ford, only a washout.

There is a lot of Adelaide early history out there. My Eldest Daughter attended Strathmont. (ED. No she didn't I got that ****ing wrong) That was the one on Gorge road if my memory serves. Opposite Target. We bump into the Arts Teacher up here from time to time.

    Tiger shot down

    Commiserations to all employees.
Tiger was the worst airline bar none in my view. Good bye and turn the lights out and do not come back ( Thats being rude )

"Australian budget airline Tigerair has been shut down, with parent company Virgin Australia deciding to close the brand after 13 years.

In a statement emailed to customers on Thursday night, Tigerair said the decision was difficult.
"There is no denying these are tough times for everyone in the travel and tourism industry," the statement said.
Customers who had bought tickets for Tigerair flights will be able to use travel credit for flights operated by Virgin Australia.
Troubles for Tigerair started before the pandemic hit "

Keeping **** because it’s old is not the way to do it.
So much crap is heritage listed and shouldn’t be, whilst some great significant stuff is not.

It's done so people like me who prefer to live in the past can remember, but remember what, is the problem.
