Keep the colour temperature low, no higher than 4500K. I don't know if LED is available this low as I've only seen adverts with them around 6000K. I found 3000K HID very good in night rain but they're too much of a compromise for normal use.
It never was for me an enjoyable experience driving at night and even worse when also is raining.
When I lived in Qld regional areas was easy to improve the lights of my old Disco and the Defender by fitting a good pair of Hella spotlights.
Now in a populated area with more traffic, the spotlight is not a solution for those unavoidable night trips.
How I can improve the Disco Tdi300 lights?
I will be fitting a relay but that will be not enough, which will be the best-LED upgrade/replacement available?

Why not try upgrading the supply with relays and upgrade the bulbs to +130
They make a big difference without compromising the colour temp

Yes, I did just this and it has helped no end with my lights and far night vision. 1984 110 so the old lights were dim and very hard to drive at night. The only problem I have now is being dazzled by the headlights reflecting on the large road signs. Higher lumen equals higher reflection back. Bigger the sign the bigger the light reflected back.
Reflection and astigmatism do not mix very wellbut I have to try.
Another problem with astigmatism is the shadows at night and the only way that I have found out is by having a set of lights high up which cannot be used in urban areas where there is too much traffic.

Yes, I have some small level of astigmatism hence my finding the reflections a problem. I have slightly changed the angle of the left head light inwards a few degrees and while the signs still reflect brightly from afar, as I get closer, the lo beam of the left lamp falls a little bit further away from the sign. I also tilt my head lights down a degree or two. Means I reduce their range but I also reduce the intensity of reflective bounce back sooner.
I also sometime wear my low light fly fishing Polaroids at night. They some how reduce glare without making things darker. They are my yellow lensed low light trout spotting Polaroids I wear late afternoon early evening while sight-fishing for trout in freshwater rivers here. They seem to gather light reduce glare from reflections and increase contrast in low light conditions. Works for me in some situations like in built up urban areas with opposing headlights everywhere and signs all over the place. Anything that reduces glare without reducing vision is great. Probably similar to driving glasses.
Your mileage may vary but if you can borrow a pair try them. I have seen shooters wear similar coloured lenses but am not sure what they are designed to do so may or may not be similar. Given they are shooting fast flying clay pigeons contrast without glare on a fast swing may be required. Someone here may be able to chip in with how these optics may be of assistance. They may even tell me not to. Like I say, helps in some situations where lots of light from lots of directions cause glare issues. Damn modern HID and LED head lights on auto dip...![]()

The worst ones are the DIY HIDs that don't have self levelling. Any approach over a crest is dazzle time.

I drop my 55W 4300K bi-xenon + 55W 4500K HID high beam to low beam for the few seconds that very reflective signs are in their glare range. I have an outstanding task to put a switch on the high beam (only) lights for extra reflective signs and for approaching but still distant vehicles.
