We did comment about holding one of ACE's BBQ's to fix it. If things wen't to plan it should back at tony's by now.
Yes, all the bits are back at Tonys place now. We did another trip down to Canberra today with a car trailer in tow behind my Rangie. We arrived back at Tonys at around 9.00pm after a slow trip home. Tony will be able to tell you more about his plans but he has his work cut out for him fixing his LSE, Morgans RR & Pandoras 90. Maybe we could have a working bee to help the old guy out. BTW, rather than rebuild/rebody the silver RR, I think the plan is to get hold of another RR that's on the road & ready to use.Originally Posted by George130

Just wondering if the tail shaft broke would there have still been some drive to the front wheels![]()
Its a bit rough if you break a tail shaft you go hurtling back wards.
As long as you have the centre diff locked you will still have drive at the front. Hand brake isn't any good in that situation.Originally Posted by LoadedDisco

and had both wheels on the ground......
Hi Guys
Well I've had enough and in the house now, so thought I'd write a bit about what happened, but firstly a big thank you to Ed and Jonny for the recovery and storage of the wreck and a huge thank you to Scouse for all his time and effort getting the Rangie back home. And to all of you for your offers of help and commiseration's
Now differential diagnosis. Very steep, slippery, shaley hill, diff lock was in, rear maxi drive was in, we think the front wheels were already in the air (climbing the second ledge) and only the rear was driving because of the maxi. Little squirt of power result in broken tail shaft. Remembering front wheels are either in the air or have no traction, 2 1/2 ton of Rangie stopped going forwards and started going backwards. Handbrake, footbrake was on - still going backwards. Left rear quarter dug into the bank, flipping Rangie over to the right, rolling 2 1/2 times, finally coming to rest on the passenger's side.
All this happened in the space of "it's going over".
Only salvageable panels, top tailgate, driver's side rear door. Everything else is cactus.
Engine will start and run but it has no oil pressure. Tried forced feeding oil through the capillary sender and the idiot light into the oil pump, but still no oil pressure. Finally gave up for today.
The big question now is, what to do?
Missed out on an 87 Hiline for $1600 at Castle Hill. Phoned them today, but was sold on Saturday.
So if anyone knows of a cheap late 80s Rangie for sale, let me know. If I knew how to post photos I'd put some more up that we took today while it was on the trailer.
Good news for today, we fixed the LSE, so at least that's running alright now.
Once again, thank you all very much for your offers of help.
Tony and Panda
How much you looking at spending Tony? There is a nice one in the market place here on the forum for 5k, looks good, no gas though, but you could swap your system over.
Glad to hear you are all ok, you now have till the 5-6th august to get one and get it running so you dont miss out on Ace's VIII.
Or maybe we need an Ace's BBQ sooner to fix the old one as Ed said.![]()
