Thread: Doubling of airfreight costs into Australia from UK.

Been like that most of the year, air freight prices are thru the roof since there are hardly any flights.

If you need something you need it.

Ive spent about $6000 between 3 vendors in US over the last 2 months, Ive given up on cheap freight USPS is taking 4-6 weeks . I pay a premium for DHL Fedex & UPS , since ive been using them the stuff arrives 6-8 days to my door from the midwest. Double is about right but ive only been stung customs once ($270 DHL Ransom) so its even stevens.

Why do people still use DHL - they are well know scammers asking for more money (outside Govt fees) when goods are in the country.

I now ask vendors who they use and if DHL I ask for someone else - if they say they only use DHL I tell them then it is a no sale - then all of a sudden new couriers become available.

Never experienced this with DHL, had a few items sent this year too.

Saw an article earlier this year where TNT claimed that up to 75% of airfreight came in on passenger flights. No passenger flights means commercial flights are overbooked.

The company I work for have seen freight costs from Italy go from $7 per Kilo to $23 per kilo since the beginning of the year
Airfreight from Singapore used to be a couple of days but now can take up to a week, sometimes longer.

Freight from the US is coming 'the other way round' to miss Singapore, much quicker at the moment.

I know, right ! Iv'e warned people off DHL before but this particular Vendor quoted me US$520 via Fedex , US$370 DHL , So I took the risk figuring if I copped the DHL Scam (and thats what it is) I'd be about even, ..,. thats the way the cooking crumbled, but I avoid them by the plague . It was a complete hinged windscreen frame with glass, at least it arrived unscathed.. .

Dhl have their own freighter aircraft so they would be the safest bet at the moment if you need parts in a reasonable time frame.

Ditto - never had a drama with them and they can get a package from England to my door in 4 days - even over the weekend.
